I learned a harsh lesson today
Never ever say you like anime on a gaming forum
There seems to be a nerd hierarchy and it seems anime nerds being pretty new seem close to the bottom just above Game of thorn nerds

I've stopped watching anime, but I still like coming here because anime is unpretentious. When people do get pretentious about anime, it's usually in an endearing way.

I haven't noticed that. Always seems to be a fair amount of cross-over between games and anime, in my experience. The kinds of people who will insult you for liking anime will try to find any reason to insult you, so better not to worry about them.

Odd. Every time I tell fellow gamers I watch anime I'm met with a flood of "me too".
This does sometimes lead to good-natured fights between fandoms but it's what you'd expect. Much like Trek vs Wars generally is a thing among gamers.

It mostly happened in World of Warships were they introduced Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Highschool fleet ships to the game and the cries of "Dear god what have you done bringing this weeb stuff into our game" the attacking anyone who says they like anime

Ah, I've never played one of the Wargaming titles so I have no idea what that particular community is like.
Maybe it's the genre? I can vaguely see some of the more hardcore military otaku getting bent out of shape about "muh realism!"
I've found (MMO)RPG and general gaming communities to be pretty accepting of anime if not fellow fans.

Really? Most gamers I've talked to either like anime, or don't give a shit... Well, aside of the obvious trolls and plain assholes. Regardless, it seems like you were primarily dealing with folks who were upset and lashing out over changes to their game. When people are mad like that, it's best to leave them alone and let them cool off. The lesson doesn't appear to be that you shouldn't talk about anime on gaming forums, but rather that you should leave well enough alone whilst people are too angry for rational discussion.

in theory don't state you don't like anything on said popular section either, can be just as dangerous. but yes, even though some gamers are cartoon freaks, gaming is serious business! or so, those who lashed out are like that. however, I wonder how many would be upset if some of their beloved video games were once cartoons or other related materials and/or ideas. and some of these same said companies makes things.
