Of non-FB forums, the MyAnimeList, ANN, and CR forum pages I see most often when expressing views about Eng. dubs. Am I correct to assume that ANN and CR anime forums are generally more welcoming to Eng. dubs? Sure, I see MAL forum posts that might say something like "the dubbed voice for this character was better than the subbed", but I think the MAL threads tend to be more negative towards Eng. dubs

MAL is much more negative due to a pervasive belief where dubs are politicized, alongside MAL being high strung in general. There isn't a great deal of active moderation, so it is a bit on the wild side.

Eng. dub criticism has some validity (like rewriting a line to make a sociopolitical point), but MAL makes it a lot worse when criticizing Eng. dubs.

I haven't really seen hate on people who watch dubs here. The Funimation forums (https://www.funimation.com/forum/) is probably the best forum if you want to talk dubs though.

Don't know the culture here.

Personally some voices sound stupid some sound reasonable. Obviously there are artistic reasons for picking voices but I find some tastes questionable.

my main criticism to dubs is when the company decides to cut several episodes because "reasons" (cough smile precure -> glitter force cough). some translation is dubious (okonomiyaki as japanese pizza?), but i guess it doesn't affect the enjoyability too much.

Back when I was active in ANN (few years ago), their core was mostly American.

English dubs ruin all immersion in an anime for me. I suddenly feel like I am watching a mix between a Saturday morning cartoon and a bad fu flick from the 70's-80s and no exaggeration, I absolutely hate it.

You won't get flamed here about it, I think most people don't care.

I for the most part don't like english dubs, and it's not the voice actors' faults, but it's because the original script usually doesn't translate well into English.

There are exceptions like DBZ, Baccano, and Cowboy Bebop. Those anime are more culturally neutral though. When you have an anime that is thick in Japanese culture, the way the dialogue proceeds also reflects that, and what you end up with is something that sounds extremely awkward.

If the setting is Western, I generally prefer the dubs. Engrish from "New Yorkers" is just as bad.

They are just more nice tbh. mal is filled with negative people more than ann or crunchyroll. ANN is above that type of thing, Their rules for locking threads and banning are much more strict. Mal's freaking database is all of the japanese names of shows with no way to change it to full English. That alone tells you there is more sub only kids and more bootleggers. Not having anime names in English is utterly stupid imo. What is their goal to leave titles so half assed. I am sorry but Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon sounds so bad. it sounds like a Japanese guy struggling to English or a English person struggling to Japanese. In other words mal community is just filled with people who want things a certain way even though it no longer makes any sense. When I search mal I only use full English or full Japanese, I never search for the romaji half translated crap title why would I?

Well sorry for getting off topic but yeah, mal just has crappy mentality imo. Don't get me wrong there are tons of cool people there but it overall feels off to me.

Well, everybody is entitled to their own opinions, and I certainly understand both sides here as there are those shows that are meant to be listened to in Japanese, and shows where it just feels awkward to listen to in Japanese in an English-speaking world. One thing that people don't seem to realize that the Japanese dub isn't immune to bad voice acting, and not understanding Japanese makes it a bit easier to stomach. And another thing is that the quality of English dubs has improved by leaps and bounds since the early days, but at the same time they face far more constraints and challenges as for most voice actors, this is actually their secondary job rather than their primary job unlike in Japan, all while there's the union to deal with, and the fact that they are spread all over between LA, Dallas, Houston, and New York whereas in Japan everybody is somewhere in Tokyo.

Anyway, the key thing is to be respectful of opinions. While I haven't been over on MAL, here it is pretty constrained as the mods to an excellent job in ensuring that everybody is polite and things can get quite ugly when the line is crossed.

Anime fans left alone with low moderation are super negative. The main plague of the anime world imo. MAL forums are the prime example. The political thing was only once ever really relevant and since then the dub haters use this as a weapon for everything. Anyway...

As for dubs, I think they are my own defintive way of watching any show. Dub these days are all super high quality and easily are on par, if not better, with the sub at times. Of course there are some duds like in everything. Animax stuff(looking at GBF) are pretty mediocre.

I like DUBs, but sometimes when it is just FUNi doing them, you pretty much get bored with the same voice actors over again and again. "LAWL"
