What abbreviations do you hate?
I hate "OST." Why can't people just say "soundtrack?"
I also hate "OVA/OAV" Why can't people just decide on one or just say "anime miniseries?"
I hate when people abbreviate game titles (how am I supposed to know FH3 is Forza Horizon 3?).

I guess because it's easier to use them. Going by its real name is probably too long so they want to shorten it.
But I get that it can be confusing for some people.

TL;DR

Acronyms do NOT have semi-colons. (Full ones are allowed, however.

Probably abbrev. After that, it'd be people mistaking acronyms for abbreviations.

LOL, but only when people stick it on the ends of sentences for no reason.

when people don't say the full names of metal/rock bands. It makes me so furious when people are like " You know WBTBWB?!" (thats actual band abbrevation btw)
And most of the band abbrevations sound the same so I get confused if people talk fast and change the band in discussion all the time.

Other abbrevations I don't have problem with

The ones that have a zillion of meanings attached to them that differ based on what niche community uses them.
Or even worse, reusing the same acronym for something in the same community that's just more recent.

One that will always irk me is when "CCS" is brought up without much context and/or spelling the damn thing out at least once because depending on who I'm talking to it could have up to 4 different meanings for the same person and close to a dozen overall.

edit:
Also, the ones where nobody can agree on what they abbreviate.
Take "proc". Programmed random occurrence? Process? Or "meta". I've always believed this to be taken from the greek preposition for "beyond" but have recently been told by a mob of pitchfork-wielding denizens of the net that it's actually a backcronym for "most efficient tactics available"...
We're terrible at keeping the meaning of real words in our language straight (Semantic shift: Does anyone remember reading books written when "gay" and "ejaculate" didn't quite mean the same things they do now? I think both of these are in my copy of Jane Eyre but I'm not certain on the former) let's make things worse by introducing more ambiguity!

1. It's kind of in the name. A soundtrack typically refers to a collection of existing music used in a project ( Celine Dion belting out on Titanic ). While an OST is entirely a collection of music created for the project ( The dramatic music as the Titanic sinks ) hence Original Sound Track. Nerdy distinction I know but if you're a music nerd you make such distinctions.

2. Because that would be the wrong definition. A miniseries is basically any show that has a set/planned beginning and ending ( as opposed to shows that are made to just run for god damn ever ). So some anime are technically miniseries to begin with. An OVA on the other hand is made specifically for release on home media instead of broadcast or theatre. Usually with a better budget and run time as a result.

3. Git gud.

I find abbreviations lazy regardless, but I find chat speak to be the most annoying. I know what it means, but it seriously insults my intelligence and theirs too. also, the joke of NSFW, is just another way of saying, hey I'm looking at porn keep the kids and boss out of the room sort of thing. on a bright note they finally have an abbreviation for what they've been doing all along...
