I don't want to tear the kid down. All I ask is that you save this discussion and look back on it in four years.

"[art] is something that us mere mortals can not even begin to comprehend. and i leave it as that." - You should have left it at that then.

I'll leave it at this: "Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it." - Andr Gide

I'm going to post some similar ones:

"Doubt is uncomfortable, absolute certainty is ridiculous." ~ Voltaire

“A man ceases to be a beginner in any given science and becomes a master in that science when he has learned that he is going to be a beginner all his life.” ~Robin G. Collingwood

“The demand for certainty is one which is natural to man, but is nevertheless an intellectual vice” ~Bertrand Russell

“To the wise, life is a problem; to the fool, a solution” ~ Marcus Aurelius

Could someone post some tips on how to judge animes before they we are overrun by "new members" who practically post blasphemous lies about animes.

example: "You should watch, Sailormoon, Pokemon, and the best anime EVER DBZ!"

I love being a hardass elitist about media because I'm collecting, but these "kids" make it TOO EASY to flame them.

Glad this topic took off while I was asleep. We seemed to have strayed a bit but that's fine.

Eros, as for discarding those opinions with poor grammar and/or sentence structure I find it difficult not to agree, but for the sake of not causing arguments I tend to just gloss over the offending posts.

However for your other points/quotes, art is something that we as sentient beings have to quantify in some way, as art stirs emotion in only us (that we know of) therefore we have to deal with it somehow. The problem is and returning to the original point different people respond to different pieces in a myriad of ways, thus art seemingly appears only subjective. Despite this however art also has a number of award ceremonies and critics e.t.c - If art were purely subjective then no award could ever be given, as there would never be any agreement as to what is good. Thus objectivism within art does exist, and like my original question asked, how do you judge somethings artistic worth?

Here is one I would recommend...Uta Kata....every outfit is drawn by a different artist. They even have one episode..think its an OVA that just shows the artwork and what not. Other than that...i cant say since I haven't been up to date with animes for a while.

The judging of artistic worth is all divided and categorized. Should it not fall under those categories then it wouldn't be considered art? Should look at the organizations to get a clearer definition as to what area's they consider art. I mean historical museums are full of art, as well as every car out there if it is like that....I mean terrorists blowing up vehicles and its remains could be art? There is a limit as to what can and cannot be art, just finding where is the trouble I think.

As for anime..how is that art? and how can it not be art? This one itself is controversial. anime is an entertainment show and cannot be considered art, but someone had to draw it and come up with the idea so it is.....Is this still for another thread? This is a judgement of how it can and cannot be art..I only recommended an anime to be watched and judged.

It's just we have several threads for recommending anime, and it didnt appear from your initial post that you were contributing to the debate, you have however rectified this from your last post.

I would describe anime all day long as art, as I would film, documentary, writing, dancing and so many other emotional outlets.

I tried to make this clearer in one of my earlier posts but the inherent vagueness in my liberal description of art (for the sake of the topic) proved to be too flimsy a thing.

Yes we can look at various organizations classifications for art, but I was interested in you guys' opinion, hence I did not just post a grading system from an art school. If however you would like to tell us of such a system please do so, and tell us whether you agree with it or not and why.
