As the Elder Scrolls have so Foretold...

...FUNimation is now under Sony Pictures.... and so now are its financials. Well, some of them, sorta....

Approximately 300,000 (paid) subscribers have been attributed to FUNimation. Not 1+million like CR. In addition, the Sony CEO is stepping down from position.

Looks like SOMEONE is veeery happy, indeed (probably already knew, though)...

^see I wonder if the CR/Funi deal was even good for them in terms of streaming, since I feel like it split the viewership. If you want subs (CR) or dubs (Funi).
Although I'm sure on the dvd/bd side of Funimation its probably better since you can now buy stuff that was unavailable under CR.

Personally I've spent more on DVD and BD. Than any streaming subs combined. Though the spending on phys media has spikes and lulls because of the stuff I really want to collect not appearing every quarter.

I think it was more about getting home releases over subs for their streaming platform. The price is $5 a month so $15 for the season. Dragon Maid is currently up for preorder for just under $50. In the season it aired I doubt there were many people who watched just Dragon Maid on either CR or Funimation. Even if someone just buys Dragon Maid for their April releases that's still far more than they would have made of that person subbed to watch a simulcast of it. I doubt Funimation lost too subs much when they started the partnership.

I mean, they're marketing to a niche inside of niche; A streaming service marketted specifically towards people who wants to watch dubbed anime.

Crunchyroll on it's own is already small potatoes compared to Hulu and Netflix's numbers, so this doesn't really surprise me.

That and I imagine Funimation makes the lion's share of their profits from Home Video Releases, Merchandising, Sublicensing their anime to stuff like Hulu and VRV.

It's possible many people are using VRV. Whether or not having VRV linked up to your Funimation and CR accounts counts towards that 300K is debatable.

Can you link VRV and Funimation accounts? I've only seen CR as an option.

well look on the bright side at least AT&T didn't obtain them. as for Sony having the power and obtaining the money, I don't have a problem with Sony and at least they brought it about for people to still obtain cartoons here in the states under a good dubbing company. not to mention with Sony in there then there's a good chance they might be able to license some games under their power they couldn't before. I don't know what the contract holds, but, at least funi didn't cave like some of the companies of the past. it's easier to sell out than close your doors. unless it's being sold to a greedy/bad/questionable company, then, it's better to close in the long run.

@MadeDragon: I guess I was wrong. The "Premium" setting on one's VRV account does include most of the Funi catalog (a lot of them are the dubbed versions). However, it seems there isn't yet a "Link to your Funimation.com account" setting.
