Hello, all!

I was big time into anime in grad school, but I haven't watched in a while. Then I loaded up Crunchy Roll and was overwhelmed! I know that there are probably a dozen shows in there I'd love, but heck if I know how to pick! The titles sure aren't any help ("Tuesday! Rhubarb Panic") (I totally made that up, but you know it could well be a new anime, LOL!).

My wife and I are looking for something new and good to watch together. And first of all, Arigatō!!!! for reading this and taking the time to share your favorites with another fan. If we end up loving your recommendation, we'll be grateful forever! ^_^

To give you some guidance, I can tell you that:

We LOVED Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter (both versions), Fullmetal Alchemist (both versions), and Cowboy Bebop (see how old this stuff is? LOL).

We REALLY LIKED Deathnote, Haruhi, Samurai 7, Kenichi: Mightiest Disciple, and (strangely) Love Hina.

We DID NOT ENJOY Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball, and we don't enjoy anything with giant robots. I'm sorry. Giant robots turn out to just not be my thing.

The things I generally enjoy about anime are warm, good, lovable characters who care about one another (Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal), edge-of-your-seat plotting (season 1 of Deathnote, Fullmetal), a good sense of humor (Love Hina) and bonus points for stylishness and music (Bebop).

Things that generally turn us off are a cast full of cold, dark, angry characters, lots of robots, excessive giggly, bouncy fan service, non-original, overdone storylines about vampires or magical girls, and excessive cutesiness. Basically, we're looking for a good balance.

I don't care what the topic is (cooking! Magic! Badminton! Everyday life in Tokyo!) as long is it has the qualities I enjoy. Thank you again for your recommendations! It's been a while since I've had a new anime to watch that's any good, and I'm really excited to hear what you have to suggest!

You'll almost certainly like Durarara and Re:ZERO. The first unveils its story through multiple perspectives, while the second has an unusual way of tackling a linear narrative.

I'm not generally fond of giant robots either, but check out Gurren Lagann (aka Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann). It takes the giant robot idea and turns up the dial until the dial breaks off but it keeps on turning and the universe starts rotating around it and it keeps on turning.

legend of galactic heroes, trust me once you watch it no anime will be able to even come close to being better

Clannad, Ghost in the shell, ergo proxy, kanon,, fate/stay night 2006, fate/zero, fate/stay night unlimited blade works, fate/stay night heaven's feel, attack on titan, Akira, ghost stories (don't watch it in japanese!), the garden of sinners, the devil is a part timer, black lagoon, jormungand, princess princepal.

And if you want to watch torture porn and are 18+ (no it's not a hentai but I still wouldn't recommend it to anyone under 18 as it features themes like rape, torture and etc) then you can always go for Rin - Daughters of Mnemosyne
