Yeah honestly I don't get why people care whether or not it's a cliche or if it's a trope. IMO, people should really be weighing these series upon whether or not they do the cliches/tropes well or not rather than if they use them at all.

The rants of "Its cliché" are somewhat cliché in themselves now. Paradox detected.

When I see someone complain about an anime relying on same set-ups, Im reminded of the Patrician quote from the Discworld series:

People like to be told what they already know. Remember that. They get uncomfortable when you tell them new things. New things…well, new things aren’t what they expect. They like to know that, say, a dog will bite a man. That is what dogs do. They don’t want to know that a man bites a dog, because the world is not supposed to happen like that. In short, what people think they want is news, but what they really crave is olds.

No. There's no other way to sum up the repetitive situations we've seen a million times or personalities that seem like another story we've watched into one single word without having to go on a rant and repeat what stories they're like. Rerun, Rehash, deja vu, copy pasta, cookie cutter, and recycled are the terms I use, but cookie cutter seems to be the best analogy since it visually explains that no matter what shape you cut the cookie it's made from the same batter and the result is same.

Anime and most other things tend to be very formulaic. artists tend to copy their favorite shit, sometimes almost exactly. then you have execs and stuff who are buying what's going to sell, which is what has already sold, ad infinitum.

that's what we mean by cliche. i want to see more shit like psycho pass and less shit like OMG I TRIPPED AND FELL INTO HER BOOBS

also a lot of it is execution. my hero academia is a Superhero / School story. Never saw that before in anime. But it's executed with depth, meaning, emotion and originality, as well as plain old fashioned good technique. So it transcends the tropes it draws on.

It's a word that has been ruined because people are using it incorrectly.
People will bash a show for being slightly similar to another show they like, like that show is the only one allowed to do that thing.
To me, just because a show is cliche doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable, it just needs to add something interesting to that cliche to catch my attention.

For some companies, they are essentially trying to find the perfect money printer, so they will fine-tune a formula until they get one that brings people in all the time. Sex and nostalgia are relatively big factors in those formulas. People just get annoyed when that "nostalgia" factor gets over-used.

And yes, the more I watch of Black Clover, the more I see of seemingly cut and pasted character backgrounds, events, and timing for their introduction. Probably the influence of Shonen Jump editors on the author. There are parts where you can see the individuality of the author in there, but so far those are in minor roles rather than the current story arcs. I don't read the manga, so I can only comment on the anime so far.

When you get tired of anime tropes and cliches, you should probably go take a look at other things to try to find something fresh and then come back to it again at a later point.

Really? I've found that most people use "cliché" correctly. Anyway, there's little sense in getting wrapped up in someone else's take on any given series. If a person thinks a series is too damned predictable, then they do. If you don't, you don't. No one is owed any sort of validation.

I've seen so much there's no such thing as "original" anymore, and when it does happen it's extremely rare. so, yes, a lot of things are cliche, a copy of something else. for those who haven't seen a bunch of stuff they will think it's original, but, for me nope. not even for mech or genre outside my usual viewing range. you're seen one hentai (perverted something, it's not a genre it's made up of several things such as fan service, panty shots, nudity, sexual content, etc) you've quite literally seen them all.
