Yes, I know obesity is a big problem in the USA and elsewhere and it's unhealthy, but people can't help it. The government needs to stop making ridiculous laws that are a bunch of nonesense & start making laws that will HELP with our safety & the USA.
Also, if people would make laws like this then let's just close down to all the restaurants that make us fat.

being obese is rarely genetic. it has infinitley more to do with lifestyle than genetics. those fat fucks are just so lazy that they won't change to save their lives. watch them all die of some fat-shit related sickness like heart disease, when they could've saved themselves by simply eating better before it was too late.

we should control their lives because it is disgusting and unhealthy, and as i said, they won't change to save their own lives. too bad it will never happen, because of the "unalienable rights" they have. we need to treat obesity like a drug addiction, and send these people to rehab and give them probation officers

I'm sorry, but do you know the definition of "unalienable" itself? It means it cannot be taken away. One of the government's purpose is to protect our unalienable rights & they have NOT been doing it. Why should we give a fuck about other people's lives? It's a free country, if they wanna be fat then so be it. No one has the right to interfere with other people's lives unless it's endangering other people's lives.
And btw, Obesity IS genetic ;
Genetics
As with many medical conditions, the calorific imbalance that results in obesity often develops from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Polymorphisms in various genes controlling appetite, metabolism, and adipokine release predispose to obesity, but the condition requires availability of sufficient calories, and possibly other factors, to develop fully. Various genetic conditions that feature obesity have been identified (such as Prader-Willi syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, MOMO syndrome, leptin receptor mutations and melanocortin receptor mutations), but known single-locus mutations have been found in only about 5% of obese individuals. While it is thought that a large proportion of the causative genes are still to be identified, much obesity is likely the result of interactions between multiple genes, and non-genetic factors are likely also important.

A 2007 study identified fairly common mutations in the FTO gene; heterozygotes had a 30% increased risk of obesity, while homozygotes faced a 70% increased risk.

On a population level, the thrifty gene hypothesis postulates that certain ethnic groups may be more prone to obesity than others, and the ability to take advantage of rare periods of abundance and use such abundance by storing energy efficiently may have been an evolutionary advantage in times when food was scarce. Individuals with greater adipose reserves were more likely to survive famine. This tendency to store fat is likely maladaptive in a society with stable food supplies.

-Wikipedia.

Like I said, the government should protect us from the real* stuff out there; Terrorism, Drugs, etc. THOSE ruin people's lives and make them suffer. You know what? I work at a hospital and I see countless of obese patients but they're not complaining at all. So leave them alone and let them live their life the way they wanna live it.

I heard something along the lines of- McDonalds making their doorways narrow so people who were overweight (I am being PC) couldn't enter.

But What is a restaurant supposed to do- calculate everyone's BMI before they are allowed to enter?

Haha, exactly what I'm thinking. Plus, these restaurants will only lose money, do you know what I mean?

That's ridiculous. The right to eat belongs to everyone. Also, people eat as unhealthy at home as they do in restaurants. People who overeat, overeat anywhere whether it is in a restaurant or at home.

What about takeaways.

An obese person can get a skinny person to go and order it for them, in case the takeaway doesn't give them the food.

This way the person would get less exercise than if he had gone to the takeaway himself.

(Yeah I live in the middle ages, where people actually walk to takeaways, instead of phoning)

so that quote from wikipedia says that only about 5% of obese ppl are genetically obese? thank you for proving my point.

hey, i don't see druggies complaining either, so why do we stop them from having their fun? because its dangerous? eating too much food is dangerous too. and its a slower, more painful death, and it makes you look more disgusting then any meth addict i've ever seen.
did you know that 1 out of every 2 americans is expected to get cancer? why is that? its not because of environmental conditions.only about 20% of cancer cases are assumed to be caused from the physical environment, while 51% are from health behavior. if anything, the environment is the cleanest it has been since before the industrial revolution. its due to lifestyle habits, such as diet. diet is probably the single most important part of staying healthy, yet these people are, i'd say, addicted to food. so we should regulate them like we do with other addicts.

The TOP FOUR KILLERS in America are:

#1) Cardiovascular Disease -- Fifty percent of the deaths in America, that's half the deaths in this country, are caused by heart disease. Heart disease is man-made, because it is not contagious. It causes over a million premature deaths per year, it's hard to believe that we cause it all ourselves, but we do! It's a disease that grows silently and often the first sign the victim feels is just a few hours before it kills you. Nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices are your best protection.

#2) Cancers -- We're losing the war on Cancer! One in three Americans living today will get cancer (thats 1,000,000 new cases every year). After billions of tax dollars and over 35 years of research and technology development, the survival rate is the same 50/50 as it was in 1971 when President Nixon declared a "War on Cancer". (In a family of six, at least two of the members will get cancer and one will die)

#3) Infections -- U.S. Deaths from infection rose 56% between 1980 and 1992, making it the third largest killer of Americans. Your best defense against infection is a tip-top immune system. Drugs often suppress and weaken the immune system; nutrients build and strengthen the immune system.

#4) Adult-onset diabetes -- 100 years ago was #100 on the disease list, now is #4. It's interesting to note that low-fat or nonfat foods use a combination of sugars to give them flavor. It could be said that the "Decade of the Low-fat Diet" has been and continues to be a factor for the increase in Adult-onset diabetes.

3/4 of those can be assumed diet related

Look, just because you find obese people "disgusting" doesn't mean you have to take away their rights to eat. So basically, you want them to starve? How about letting them eat wherever they want to, but ENCOURAGE them to exercise. I'm thinking you didn't catch this part much obesity is likely the result of interactions between multiple genes, and non-genetic factors are likely also important. Yes, I know the top killers of America, like I said.. I AM in the medical field.
Obesity is a genetic factor, enough said. You can ask ANY doctor out there and they'll tell you the same. Let people choose what they want.
Stop bitching about nonsense and start realizing what's really* out there. Who cares if people are getting fat, because I certainly don't. It's their life, not mine! It's not endangering my life, now is it? Whatever, let's just say that the law that they made up is b.s. Start thinking about what's more important out there like, abortion, the war, and murder. STFU with the obesity shit, bcos seriously it's NOT* gonna help but make everything worse.

I don't think this law is going to come to pass. Even if you think it's a good idea (I kind of almost do, even though I think it is not right) how are they going to know whose BMI is over 30? Measure everyone? Just guess? What if someone is fat but under 30 BMI and the place doesn't want to serve them because of that? Would they have to show proof that they are 28, etc.??? Have everyone step on a scale when they go in? Yeah, this isn't gonna happen.

This is one of the retarded possible law trying to be passed I've ever heard of. How about trying to fix are in debt economy, worry about our ozone, the war in Iraq, elevated gas prices, expensive health care issue and oh so many more important issues. But no lets worry about the ppl with BMI's over 30. There just trying to get people focused on stupid issues like that to keep our mind off the real issues that matter in our world. Are they going to have some one at ever restaurant door to calculate the BMI. Come on people be more realistic like restaurants or fast food chains are really going to allow this law to pass. Freedom Of Choice people !! Instead of worrying about how much food people eat lets worry about what they put in our food.

I think you are so right! The government is always trying to get people off of the important issues and make non issues important especially now that people are deciding who they want for president! Besides if they are so concerned about peoples HEALTH then how about giving people that are over weight free gym memberships and personal trainers or how about offering cooking classes and discounts at grocery stores for healthy / organic foods. How about creating a bill that will help over weight people not make them a joke!

they ARE encouraged to excercise, but usually don't. most try to starve themselves or take diet pills (which are terribly unhealthy) to lose weight. i'd rather be murdered than go through the pain of heart-disease, or cancer (my uncle had throat cancer, and had a hole cut in his stomach where they dripped in water and food through an IV because he couldn't swallow). i have never seen anything more painful than that, and this is from someone who has seen a man decapitated, has had numerous injuries himself, suffered from extreme pneumonia and is currently recovering from a head injury/possible concussion.

i am against a law regulating fat people. what i think should be done instead is treating obesity like a drug addiction rather than an illness or a life choice. because those people really can't change, they truly are addicted to food (gluttony, not just eating for survival)
even if they want to change, it is extremely difficult for them because they are jus so used to eating thousands of extra calories a day.

That's what should be done, finally we're on the same page! I say, people who are obese should be recommended or assigned to a nutritionist, yes? I know that would be expensive, but if they have money to buy all that extra food then they should have enough money for a nutritionist. That's what was done to me, I was overweight before [now I'm not, thank YOU!] and my nutritionist gave me a day plan on what to eat, and an exercise list.
