i think learning through song lyrics would be a better choice. i've seen sub-titles vary a bit.

I learn, of course. Actually, I learn for some reason always especially the opening's and ending's (or other OST songs) lyrics really easily, and always some words from japanese too.

For me it's a big NO. People just don't understand that "learning" from anime is wrong , especially in Shounen anime. We don't use that kind of speech in real life so you're not applying yourself to real life and you just memorize the subtitles which are always unaccurate most of the time and don't capture the deeper meanings Japanese sentences can hold. But it is good for using it as a tool for listening but I would recommend learning from dramas.

I also do this , but music tends to have a slight different sentence structure along with grammar.

Hmm I would say that I learn certain words, but I definitely do not learn how to converse or anything. There is simply to much going on for me to follow.

I do. In fact, the first word I learned was "nani" then I learned "baka" from azumanga daioh.

just a note to anyone who may be open to picking up words from anime, "aba-yo" is not a normal terms to use when peacing out.

One can only learn a little bit of Japanese from anime. With that said, no, I deliberately try not to learn Japanese from watching anime. I've picked up a word here and there, but that's it.

I think it's ok if you're also using other proper sources to "calibrate" yourself to reality.
