Do you learn japanese from animes?
Posted 10/14/11
I learned words like: but, are you ok, thank you, sorry, bye, anyways, mom, dad, etc

I like learning from animes, sometimes the anime portrays a situation casually instead of formally like hows its taught, very informative.

Learned some "romanji" form of japanese through subbed anime. But learning the hiragana, katakana and kanji is a whole different things. To sum things up a bit some fansub tends to have their own version of subtitle which made some difficult japanese word to be learned.

Currently trying to find a way to learn japanese online.

i learned some words like Itadakimase, doujo ko tada, ohayo, iie, watashi wa samu des (i added samu cus it's my name) but anime really pushed me into learning it from the basics so i ordered a book to learn it, it'll be here in about 3-4 days can't wait.

I think it's easier if you've been learning Japanese for a while (sadly I don't know many people who do) but if you know a little Japanese, it's nice when you can hear them saying it right when you read the subs (e.g. I was watching Sket Dance or something and it said help me in the subs and before they actually said it "Tasukete"/one of the Japanese words for help popped into my head But you can't really learn Japanese from anime IMO unless you know the particles (ha(wa)/は,de/で,desu(です)and so on. But then again that's only for complete sentences, thanks for the food, hello and etc can be picked up pretty easily.

No. You really can't pick up japanese just by watching anime alone. Maybe common phrases and words yea but it is still not enough to really "learn" Japanese

You can't learn Japanese from anime alone, in fact, that's quite simple minded. Sure, you'll probably learn a few words, but speaking a coherent sentence or holding your own in a conversation...not really.
