What would be some of the main reasons that would lead me to consider joining a Discord server? I am familiar with some of the reasons that are usually connected to doing so, but I would like to hear other things that I have not been able to come up with by myself.

Something that I find unpleasant is the fact that I struggle to imagine how I am supposed to go about joining a Discord server. Sure, you can search for servers on the Discord website, but there is no such thing as a forum where each Discord server has the opportunity to introduce itself. Such a thing would help immensely with finding the right server to join.

If you are a member of a Discord server, how did you stumbe upon that particular server and are you so far enjoying the conversations you have with other folks in the server?

The first Discord server I joined was advertised right here in Chit Chat: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-975679/discord-and-cr-group-the-chat-room

I'm a member of a total of 4 servers and those just came about from joining that first server (called The Chat Room or TCR for short).

A few people plug their servers here so just check their respective posts to see if it interests you.

Someone invited me, joining was the worst decision I ever made

edit: Jokes aside, I did meet a few wonderful people and though I don't associate with them anymore they made everything worthwhile. I'll never forget them.

Thats as silly a question as asking why would you talk to people.

Since you're asking the question I imagine you're an introvert. The only reason you would talk to people is to keep yourself from going insane I imagine.

Truthfully my response isn't really fair. I mean I never really joined my discord as I made it. So I can't really say how to join one other than going based off my other experiences.

Originally my discord experience at first was kept to a small group. A few months later this small group disbanded. Moving onwards on CR I saw the Animu Kingdom discord when it was made. I decided to join and was the 4th person there. It was an interesting discord and while the 1st month or so was fun it was all and all not a really great experience. Sure I had fun but I didn't enjoy it. I joined purely out of curiousity and thats usually how I go about discords.

Kancolle is another discord I joined out of curiousity with my only reason to join this massive discord being I wanted to see if their icon was Haruna or Nagato from Kantai Collection. Surprisingly without talking that much I somehow ended up as a moderator and part of their design team. I had fun talking to the other moderators and even playing chess with one of them. Eventually I ended up stepping down so that a more active moderator could take place and do a better job than I could as I cannot devote my time to that while also keeping my main focus on my own discord. This curiousity of joining lead me to have a good experience with the discord. I cannot say I'd enjoy talking in its public channels as 14k members is quite out of my comfort zone and the lack of serious discussion is offputting.

Discord is a sort of... trial and error thing. You hope to find a discord suited for you and really can't find out without trying. My discord had some knowledge of what not to do from my experiences of previous discords and that knowledge helped me form it into something I personally enjoy. Its not for everyone and thats fine as I'm sure others will find a more suited option if they choose to do so.

Whatever interests you should be why you should join. If you like it then great, and if you don't then you'll keep searching or form it into something you like.

I'm almost certain this response is going to be not useful however I decided to post anyways. Hopefully I'm wrong and it is of use however that is all I have to say.

It is a shame that I am merely a slave of my own sociobiological needs.

Language probably evolved to communicate our needs to others. If you took an average of every mute/non mute person on the planet you would probably find that non mute people have a larger fertility rate a higher chance to pass on their genes to the next generation.

That's literally the reason I'm depressed.

So I should talk to people in order to increase my chances of getting offspring?

Outside of making your own, the best advice I can give you is simply to take a leap of faith and join a few. You'll meet people you're fond of and of course ones you aren't so much but testing the waters is really the only way you'll find your niche. Just remember it's the destination not the journey and network network network, the Tree of Discord branches out far and wide.

On another note, just a suggestion but your friend nukadude is part of The Chat Room miGneto mentioned and he (nuka) has a few of his own too. They're both swell guys, maybe you should start there.

There's no ought here, I just stated an is. If you want offspring you'll probably have a higher chance of accomplishing that if you're not mute. I was just trying to be funny by giving a overly literal answer to your question. I don't like it when people suggest that the reason you're feeling down is because you're not partying, travelling and experiencing the "world" as well but a basis level of socialisation every day is probably for the best.

That was certainly an interesting way to express the sentiment that you mentioned in your last sentence. *nod* It is a sentiment that I would agree with.
