Me....No i do not think its a sport. cuz its just a driver going in circles. you already drive. when you drive in the free way/express way do you consider your self an athlete. i mean the only athletes in racing is the pit crews.

You're thinking of Nascar if its just going in circles. I don't consider Nascar a racing sport but I do consider Rally Racing, Drifting, F1, and those types of things sports.

Its different when you drive professionally because you do have to be coordinated, good eye sight, reflexes, etc. Just like any other sport. Also you do have to be somewhat fit to be able to step on the pedal and do actual racing techniques and steering gets really tiring after awhile.

exactly cuz in nascar its just look there making a left turn omg look again there making another left turn OMFG THERE MAKING ANOTHER LEFT TURN

I guess it could be a sport like yeah you need more then just a fast car. You also kinda need to know what your doing and when is the right time to move when needed.

Hey man, if you don't like it, don't watch it. I guess it's an aquired taste. One that I've had for 16 years.

yes it does, then how would the car shift on its own? how would the car turn? how would the car go straight? it requires physical things like hitting the acceleration timing it right with the clutch..

so are you basically also saying golf isnt much of a sport either? since all you do is use your arm and hips

driving isnt an athletic sport but it is a sport man understand that driving/racing/drifting is a lot harder than you think why do you think basketball/football etc has more pros than any auto form of racing? cause racing is a lot harder than your average basketball

yea thats true. your not really doing much physically besides sitting in a car.
but i guess if its a sport then it is a sport

in a typical race car cabin, you're enduring repetitive high G-force, high temperatures, constantly battling with others for positions, just to name a few, yeah, it takes quite a toll on the body, ever looked at a professional race car driver? they're mentally and physically fit.

Shifting gears and turning a stirring wheel takes no physical talent.

From your own link...

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This
sport /spɔrt, spoʊrt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[spawrt, spohrt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

nothing quite like owning yourself.

Of course racing is a sport.

to the others who discredit motorsports as sports i would accuse you of ignorance. while your hective drive to work, school or the mall through city traffic may seem like your skills are highly honed and just as good as michael schumacher's, they are not. Just like how anyone can throw a ball and swing a bat it doesn't mean you are good. That's not to say that you are not playing the sport or are not an athlete, you're just not as good as the professionals. this is where we get the terms amateur and professional.
