Based on these numbers, I was very surprised to see Violet Evergarden mentioned; considering it's the most popular Winter Newcomer, and eclipses the next Newcomer by more than 90,000 members. It seems to be on pace to eclipse the 2nd overall most popular, Mahoutsukai no Yome. Takagi-san, After the Rain, and Kokkoku were also mentioned, though they're relatively popular.

Yeah, my perspective largely comes from the discussion here, which is pretty much non-existent (partially due to the show being unavailable for legal viewing to a lot of the CR userbase). It's good to see those numbers, though, and the numbers others have posted as well. Evergarden really does deserve to be watched and it's nice to see that it actually is even if it's not a hot topic here.

People in the West consider Kemono Friends to be a hidden gem and if you look at MAL only 19k people have watched it. But in Japan the series is a mainstream success, with V1 / V2 selling over 120k copies and having the number one anime-related video on NicoNico. So what you consider a "hidden gem" will depend on your demographic criteria.

edit: Looking at Japan's Top 5:
1. Violet Evergarden
2. Overlord
3. Takagi-san
4. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
5. Yuru Camp (although on NicoNico, Yuru Camp beats 3 and 4 in terms of views)

and 7. Ryuuou no Oshigoto! (which is ranked 21 on MAL)

Hakumei to Mikochi is probably the only good anime airing so far, it's such a shame it isn't getting the attention it deserves.

How to Keep a Mummy is absolutely adorable and I wish it hadn't gone under the radar for so many this season. Hakata Tonkatsu Ramens has also been a blast, giving me the same vibe as Durarara with an urban environment and a big cast full of connecting characters.

Had to double check. Thought you were talking about Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles forr a second. was about to perma block you lol. HOnestly it reminds me of Psycho Pass meets Mirai Nikki. But thats my opinion so far.

It's more Durarara meets Kill Bill, but it does seem to be a seriously underhyped show for what it delivers.

I'm personally enjoying Kokkoku (OP and ED is fire)

Mitsuboshi Colors should be talked about more as well, the nostalgia feels and purity/innocence of being young

After the Rain deserves more love, while the premise is questionable, there's definitely much more to it than what's presented on the surface

As for something on CR I'd say Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, fun show about people fighting over ramens, its also a sports anime as well as they battle against other types of ramen dishes through baseball

Since the first 3 were serious for the last one are you trying to get more people to watch or not...?

It was mentioned before on this thread, but A Place Further than the Universe is not nearly getting the amount of attention it deserves. The show's absolutely beautiful in art, music, and premise with a great cast of characters to boot, but it seems like most of the anime community dismissed as "just another cute girl show."

It's sad because I think that the rejection of a creative series like A Place Further than the Universe is exactly what results in "just another cute girl" type shows being made.

Quoted for truth. Even if you can't stand CGDCT shows, it might be worth checking out it's not shallow or drawn with 'moe blobs' and the art is beautiful, the construction both script and visual narrative, spot on, and the characters a lot of fun, and fun to watch grow.

While this has more or less to do with this, there are two reasons i can think of. First, it's on HIDIVE and i don't know how many are using that (there's always fansubs, sure). Second, not everybody is into this, though about 10 000 or so plan to watch this according to MAL statistics. Great, isn't it?
