This is a really disappointing move, one that's going to make me reconsider if I keep paying for a premium membership. Having convenient access to read the whole of certain manga series is the primary reason I actually made a Crunchyroll account in the first place.

The titles listed above make up at least half of my favourites list on the Crunchyroll Manga app, so I'm not sure if I'll even be using it after this change. I already own physical copies of the published volumes of UQ Holder! so the idea of buying them again in digital form does not appeal, compared to having them included as part of an ongoing subscription service.

I was wanting to read coppellion some point, just been waiting for you to add chapters 186 - 199, guess you never will now.

Can't say I'm on CR for manga, but definitely a bad move.

Crap I have a ton of manga yet to read as I've been more focused on anime lately. And most of the good and big titles are by Kodansha. I guess we're lucky that you're still getting the Kodansha simulpubs, if I'm trying to find a silver lining here, given the nature of most publishers...

What format are the ebooks? Can we read them on PC or any device or not? I am assuming DRM as usual too?

Also I find it strange that the manga book shop is in the CR anime app and not the manga app.

There's a little more info about the Manga Shop in this thread where it was introduced:

/forumtopic-984767/crunchyroll-android-app-update-introducing-the-manga-shop

One thing to note is that most (possibly all--I didn't look at every title) of the titles listed as going away from the app but available for purchase in CR's Manga Shop are also legally available in digital format elsewhere where you may have more flexible options. I looked specifically on Amazon, but assume you can find them at other major ebook sellers like Barnes and Noble too.

It's unfortunate, but there are other legit digital manga storefronts that offer manga way cheaper than Crunchyroll's manga store.

this is kinda sad . while there wasnt really a big selection to being with, this is going to hurt more than it helps. the manga selection on the crunchyroll store is just way to expensive and there are other legal sites that have manga for much cheaper.

Basically gutting the mana service...

Which is terminally broken and seems to be run by a pair of high school interns anyhow.

Wait. Princess Jellyfish is finished publishing? Looks like there were 17 volumes but Crunchyroll only has 16. So you're going to take the series down because it's completed but you're not going to provide the last volume!? What kind of manga service is this?

Its a shame how little attention is giving to the manga subscription service. I initally subscirbed to crunchyroll with a manga only subscription and was really hopeful for the service but unfortunately once it was combined with the anime subscription it proved that it was never going to have much effort put into it. After several years the manga app still doesn't have a mode for displaying two page spreads.

The manga volume shop being through the main crunchyroll app kind of proves the lack of interest I feel.

I believe this is a big reason why Crunchyroll loses potential customers. Why subscribe to someone if they can't keep what they have? Why start reading something when it could be removed at any point? If I were in the middle of reading COPPELION which is over 26 volumes, there is NO way to finish by the time you are removing it. You all need to be more demanding when getting these titles. You have a huge share of the market, you can make demands now. I don't see other sites bleeding content like you all do. This is just what you told us, you all bleed content all the time in the background hoping no one notices.

So are you not going to subscribe to any service? They all lose stuff all the time it's how licensing works.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Kodansha decided Comixology is a better service for manga than Crunchyroll as they've slowly been pulling support from the later in favor of the former. To Your Eternity (from the author of A Silent Voice) has been simulpublishing there for over a year now (https://www.comixology.com/search/items?search=to+your+eternity&subType=SINGLE_ISSUES) yet hasn't started on Crunchyroll. I think Crunchyroll should find a partner (maybe comico) to simulpub all their stuff (not just random series constantly delayed) as any series attatched to a western publisher is probably going to be on the "charge per chapter" basis now (aside from Jump which Viz has a subscription service for).
