This is one of those rare movies where the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I'm still digesting everything from the movie after seeing it this afternoon, but it's been awhile since a Marvel movie left me wanting to see more. There's just so much detail and colorful characters that slip by in between and throughout all the action that only get teasing nods, that it leaves the movie feeling like there's so much history and mythology behind the nation and people of Wakanda that only scratches the surface in this movie.

The one complaint I really have is that the despite addressing some rather heavy and thoughtful topics, most of the processing of decisions are made in the brisk pace of the moment without much time to digest just who is fighting for what that takes away from some of gravity of the situation. But given that it is a comicbook movie, perhaps that is the best way to balance the need to provide an audience with solid and exciting action. The central conflict feels both right out of the pages of a comic book with it's larger than life characters and goals while also being highly topical and this time in history.

This movie certainly makes it clear why the Infinity War trailer so heavily features Wakandans. Tony Stark just got eclipsed in terms of cool tech.

As usual, please be respectful of others and keep spoilers in tags for folks who haven't seen the movie yet.

Just got back home from the theater, and I have to say I really enjoyed it.It wasn't "groundbreaking or a "masterpiece"like a lot of critics were saying, but it was really solid and definitely one of the better mcu films.I really liked the visuals and set design.I also liked how they explored the culture and lore of wakanda and didn't just use it as a backdrop. This being an mcu film,I was expecting the humor to be overbearing, but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't overdone. Killmonger was a good villain, but not as good as he was hyped up to be.Definitely one of the better mcu villains though. The cast was all around great. Now for the negatives:The visuals got kinda wacky at the end and looked like a video game, the plot, while good, was fairly generic. Also, while not a flaw with the movie,i was a little bummed that they nerfed t'challa. In the comics,he's one of the smartest people on the planet, next to people like Tony stark and bruce banner, but in the film his sister is the one that's the genius.Again, not a flaw in the movie, just the whining of a comic nerd.Overall,i really liked it and am looking forward to a number 2.

I really enjoyed it. It did feel maybe a little too fast paced for all of the emotional and story development beats to hit where they should have. Some of the CGI, especially in the last bit with all of the fighting, wasn't exactly great. But that's about it for complaints. It really was just a very good movie from start to finish. I also loved that it is one of the first Marvel movies in a long time that felt very self contained. While certainly part of the Marvel Universe it didn't feel at all like it was just a cog in a much bigger machine.

A solid 9/10. They did a good good executing the origin story.

And I agree with you. Some of the lines they say are like hints at events.Like at the end when Micheal B. Jordan says "My people people know that death is better than bondage." a clear reference to the Middle Passage slave trade.
