Was there ever a time where you shipped the tsundere over the childhood friend? I have, but only once, with Ladies vs. Butlers.

Steins;gate is the first one that comes to mind. I think if a show is well written, I usually prefer the tsundere. If it isn't I prefer the childhood friend.

Does anyone really count as a childhood friend in that show? Unless you are considering Ryuuji x Kitamura a ship.

For some reason I'm thinking Minori counts, if for no other reason than because she fits most all the tropes.

Hmmm, what a strange situation. If someone fits all the tropes of a childhood friend, but wasn't actually the MC's friend during childhood, do they qualify as a childhood friend character?

As for the shipping in Toradora, Ryuuji x Taiga is too perfect, but on the other hand, Minorin is best girl...

Eh, I don't mind if I'm wrong, she just ticked enough boxes that my fuzzy memory of watching the show years ago was going "childhood friendzone". Even though she was the one doing most of the rejection.

No, I think it is a valid question. She really does fit the bill of "childhood friend" even though she doesn't meet the technical requirements.

Tsundere>Childhood friend trope every time. Sorry but the childhood friend trope is too damn played out imo.

Sure. While tsundere characters are usually bloody annoying every now and then we get a MC who's equally annoying and they deserve to make eachother suffer.
My usual ships forego both the tsundere and the childhood friend though.

Only in the case of Tora-Dora. Otherwise, no.

I don't get the appeal of tsundere characters. They usually require a witless MC whose infatuation isn't swayed by physical or emotional abuse. Or for whom neither is a deal breaker. Whereas, in real life, chances are you wouldn't go anywhere near someone with that sort of personality.

With a harem anime the childhood friend trope is usually that the childhood friend is going to get emotionally crushed in favour of some random girl that shows up and punches the person they love in the face.

Are you a heathen who shipped Okabe x Mayuri over Okabe x KURISUTINA in Steins;gate, or have you just never seen it?

Either way, for shame sir. For shame.

well Kitamura and Ami are childhood friends in the show but that isn't really emphasized or expanded upon so i don't blame you if you don't remember that its only briefly mentioned when ami is first introduced.
Don't mind me just a Toradora fanatic butting in with random technicalities that don't really apply to the topic lol

I wasn't really counting side-ships (ships which don't involve the main character), but I suppose that is fair. That said, I feel like Ami is more of a reverse Tsundere (Deretsun? or maybe she is a Deretsundere (because she has that extra layer of dere dere behind that hidden layer of tsun tsun)) than a childhood friend archetype (which is part of what makes her such a great character).
