For example when I watch something that is in an obviously Japanese setting like InuYasha I want to see it in Japanese, but if something is set in the western/english speaking world such as code geass, (or at least something resembling it like Full metal alchemist) I prefer to watch the english dubbed version. Am I doomed to be alone because of this?

You do you.

To be fair: It makes no sense that everyone in a globetrotting/different dimension/outer space all speak the same language, whatever it may be. Or for animals to speak at all.

Dragonball (original, Z, GT, Super) series is only watchable in English dub because Goku's Japanese voice actress is horrid. Goku sounds like a squeaky child. It's cringe. The English voice actor for Goku actually makes the character seem cool, the Japanese voice actress does the exact opposite. I prefer Inuyasha English dub and Kiddy Grade's English dub as well. Most English dubbed series are too cringe to even watch. Some shows for example, I love K-ON! but I never watched it with English audio because the Japanese voice actresses are just who I remember as that character, hearing a different voice is weird. Most English dubs lack the emotions that the Japanese dub contains.

I can see why someone would have that perspective, but I always just default to the language used in the original production. It doesn't really matter to me where it's from, it just feels like something is lost and things are off when it's not in it's original language. If it's a Polish movie I always find myself preferring to see it in Polish with subs.

Some anime set in "real life" styles have done this diffrent for example Himuro and Kagame from Kuroko No Basket speak English when they were in America and the first time they meet again in Japan Himuro and Kagame talk in english briefly after having lived in America for years.

Other chocies have been diffrent Pegasus in Yu-Gi-Oh is American but lives in Japan so he speaks japanese and after his intial appearance he does so in a exaggerated tone at the end of a sentencea a accent to sort of show it's not his first language and he breaks back into speaking english periodically and instead of a using honorifics like -kun he adds -Boy to their name like as a way of speaking a honorific that isn't japanese since he is not japanese and he writes in English

Despite that no I don't mind as sometumes the especially for older serious the original language can suck.

If it's a good dub I don't really care where it's set every character speaking english makes just as much sense as every character speaking japanese even when they aren't japanese. or in Japan.

There are some examples where things are lost in translation although it's not that often. Think about it in Attack or Titan really no one should be speaking Japanese.

That's one way to do it, sure. But it's not my style.

Sometimes English dubs do feel more appropriate for me too, so long as they sound good enough at least

I rather enjoy funimation dubs, but otherwise here lately I've been enjoying the subs than the dubs. must be all the CR and Hulu streaming, but subs have become more enjoyable for me.

It depends, I’m not a fan of English dubs where they give all characters from different nations appallling accents which sound just awful (I’m definitely thinking of machine dolls dub from funimation.

I'm the same way, though the rule doesn't apply to anime I watched before having internet. I continue to watch Inuyasha dubbed more or less for nostalgia and find it difficult to go to the subs despite the language not fitting the setting. That said however I think Inuyasha's voice cast does a better job than most dubbed work, but japanese voice actors do a better job in general. I find a lot of English voice actors seem to have difficulty finding a good medium, they're usually either too over the top or the delivery is dry.

Subs only, or else its no longer anime. You are just watching a cartoon.
