Some clarification please, does the fact that some older chapters remain mean there will be a small backlog as new chapters are published?
That is to say, if I (as a Premium member) miss reading the newest chapter of, say, Space Brothers the week it releases will I be able to still read it and the new most recent chapter the following week?

If so this is excellent news, missing a week after the changes was a scenario I was really worried about.

This is the really important thing to know. Why was there no notification outside of the forum that manga I've favorited was expiring? For this annoying "simulpub latest chapters, expire the old ones" shenanigan, WHEN do the old ones expire?

This was (and still is) also announced in the Site News on the frontpage:

Some sort of notification in the app would've been nice though, like the one that kept bugging me to vote for the Awards...

When they announced the changes coming from Kodansha, the policy seemed to be: old chapters expire soon after their volume is released. Kodansha and probably most publishers, wants collectors to buy the books or ebooks.

It says premium users will be able to read all chapters whenever they want, but I just looked and Grand Blue only has the three newest chapters . So is that "all chapters" all they have available, or maybe they're coming later...but I think that's just being optimistic...

Yeah the grand blue chapters is hmm 3 or so books ahead of the currently released english ones on Bookwalker, it's up to and including chapter 25 in the 6th book, so there is a bit of a gap there. the books should catch up to crunchyroll in may or june i guess (monthly release)

Also love it how only a couple of the newly added manga start from chapter 1... Are they really expecting people to start reading a manga from the middle?

"GTO - Paradise Lost: 44 - 95" - Strange, considering it's been months since I read the latest chapter 97 that's on CR manga.

So I need to go to the front page and scroll 3 pages down to see something this important?

I actually heard about the manga related stuff on Anime News Network first (it's my homepage) so it may be a good idea for you to have a secondary source. Most major Crunchyroll news will pop up on other Anime News sites. I certainly don't check Crunchy's front page that often so I would have missed the Crunchy manga takedown if it weren't for ANN.

I finished everything I wanted to read with 30 minutes to spare! (All I did in my free time was scramble to read like 1,000 chapters. Well...maybe not quite that high, but pretty dang close.)

While it's great we finally get more manga in Europe, I hope the missing chapters will be available later. It's not like I want to start Grand Blue at chapter 38 lol

If you want active notifications, there's an RSS feed for Crunchyroll site news (there are other CR feeds as well, new episodes, news, etc): http://feeds.feedburner.com/crunchyroll/rss/news You can use this like any other normal RSS feed that you use, or additionally in a couple different inventive ways, and I'm sure there are more...

There is a (free) site called ifttt.com (If this then that) which can be configured to send you an email when a new RSS item appears. You could also install the ifttt app on your Android/IOS device and have notifications pop up from that.

Or there are browser extensions such as RSS Feed Reader which also can be configured to give you notifications for the same thing.

They will stay up until they get collected into a volume:

We will also be streaming all uncollected chapters! When chapters are collected into volumes, the chapters will be removed from the streaming service, but will be available to buy (download to own) in ebook form in the Crunchyroll Manga Shop (currently available in the Crunchyroll Android App!)

So for instance Attack on Titan has new one chapter each month, they get collected into volumes about 3 times a year so you'll get about 4 months to read a chapter before it's moved I guess.
