According to your profile, your membership is just "regular". Are you trying to play something other than a "Chapter 1" of a series? All the rest of the chapters in any given series are premium-only. Do you have a specific title that you can point to? I tested a few at random and didn't have issues with any that I tried.

Hi all,
I was reading the manga Seven Deadly Sins (Abdroid App) the chapters 2 - 197 is not longer available, do you know if this is a permanet or is only a error about loading? because I was reading this manga and I like it.

ah, maybe they changed it, it used to be only the most recent episode was readable for non-premium and that still works for mononokean but maybe not for to you the immortal, fairy tail, attack on titan, or whatever other ones i tried and forgot.

This is a permanent (as far as contracts go) change for Kodansha titles. Any chapters that have been collected in a volume will be removed (which also means that the "uncollected" chapters that are up now will eventually be removed when they're published in a volume).

All the new stuff are annoying as we don’t get the early books of the story and get dumped in to the middle of a story. Only a few of them start at 1 and not the ones I was curious about. Such a letdown.

What is this madness?

Wave, Listen To Me! and To Your Eternity both start at chapter 1 and then skip to chapter 25. Please tell me these omitted early chapters are still being processed and this isn't some dirty trick to get readers to go buy it in the Crunchyroll Manga Shop.

In addition to the information provided by mfritsch two posts above yours, they put up the chapter 1's because those are all that "free" users have access to, and they would want to entice them, too.

This is the latest deal that Kodansha offered, so that's what CR now has for simulpubs. TomAto, tomOto, aggressive marketing, dirty trick, physical media publishing companies like Kodansha can't stay in business if they don't make money, after all...

Not just Free users, but all users. Premium people can't see the omitted chapters either.

It doesn't make sense to me. It is like buying a cheeseburger and the cashier hands you a sandwich with a big bite taken out of it. No one is going to eat that meal. It seems like an error seeing how other premiere series don't have a giant hole punched through them.

As far as scams go, this one is pretty poor:

* Not enough bait to hook the prey. Maybe they should wait to slam the iron gate of a paywall on our fingers a dozen chapters in after we are invested.

* If they are pushing for sales, where are the links to the store? Users get to the Grand Canyon gap after chapter one and have no direction where to go. (maybe there is something in the mobile app, but on desktop, it is just a dead end)

They aren't offering sales in the app either as far as I can see on iOS. Also worth keeping in mind that the iOS app doesn't even have the ebook store at all, so even if the idea is for users to go and buy it there after a great deal can't.

Right now it's buy the books elsewhere or in Grand Blue Dreaming's case you can't even read all of it legally because the content CR has is from volume 10 and official english releases are only at volume 6.

The Android video app (not the Manga one) has a "Beta" manga purchase section. I tried to see if all three collected volumes for Drifting Dragons was there, but only saw the first volume on the "Featured" page. When I tried to go to the "see all" page, it crashed when I tried to scroll. But, my tablet is an old Kindle that has been overwritten with cyanogenmod Android version 5.1.1. so it may just be that the processors aren't powerful enough. It no longer works with VRV, either...

But since I didn't see volumes 2 & 3 of DD there (before it crashed), it doesn't appear that that all volumes are available even where a video app has the (beta) Manga store. But Amazon does have the collected volumes for their Kindle store, and going to the Kodansha site, Amazon is one of the featured places to purchase their electronic versions, but not the current chapters.

All in all, it seems more like CR is an experiment for Kodansha to see if the ongoing "simulpub" most recent chapter subscription model will work out to bring more exposure to sell copies (hard or soft) of the collected volumes. It does seem quite likely to me that once each new collected volume actually gets "published" then the chapters involved in that volume will fall off of here.

Since I consider the Manga section here to merely be a membership perk, my opinion is that it is what it is, just a marketing technique to compete with Viz, perhaps, but we do benefit from it by seeing the new chapters before they are published for sale. It's not like they increased our subscription rates to give it to us. It's also not a reason to subscribe here if Manga is the only thing you are interested in, but it does sort of make sense that it might draw more subscriptions from a target group that would mostly want to keep up with (some of) the most recent Anime and Manga. As was said earlier, it's not going to entice people who want to read a complete series from start to finish.

The only thing I ask is to please keep the manga section consistent. After I finish this update's Fairy Tail it would be nice if vol 31+ could be uploaded in successive updates so I can follow the series completely instead of having to skip random chapters. I'm sure I'm not alone in the notion that the manga section of this website is more or less a mess, at least to anyone who wants to read any of the titles from start to finish.
