I think one that made me very uncomfortable was"Glycerine" aka Grease because anyone who ever worked in fast food knows that feeling..brought back some memories

"Glycerine"... the whole setting was just so... icky.

Can't remember the title but the one where the girl's tongue turns into a slug... and then things get worse. That would be so horrifying, having your tongue turn into a living creature... especially one that most people consider slimy and gross.

I've only read GYO, but the thought of becoming a smelly corpse cyborg powered by farts and burps is all kinds of nightmare fuel.

None of it. I've read several of his stories, including the famous ones. I've watched the anime, and frankly I don't get the appeal. The stories are nonsensical, the gross-out body horror doesn't really gross me out. None of it is really scary. I just don't really get what people see in these stories.

My favorite would be Uzumaki but second would be Hanging Balloons and its short enough to be adapted into the anime and I'll be really disappointed if it doesn't make it into this next last episode.

The whole "Mosquitoes" part of Uzumaki, personally, was super creepy but I generally like a lot of his work!

Yeah, I agree about the one with the oil. I've only seen some pictures from that manga, so when I watched the anime, I knew what was coming. I still gagged so hard that I had to step away for about 15 minutes. I still can't think about it without getting a bad feeling in my stomach.

the one that disturbed me the most was that small mini story at the end of the 'gyo' manga, the one where there was sillhouettes of people in the rocks, it was so scary to read, but then again, gyo was the only manga i read from him. I marathoned junji ito collection yesterday so i was kinda disappointed when i didnt see that story in the anime

Mine was the short story within Uzumaki where that one slow poke student became a slug and then the other kid who taunted him also became one and then they started to mate .....just talking about this is giving me the shivers.

"Bully." The ending was depressing.
Also, there was "Gyo." I don't know why, but as I was reading it, I couldn't help but feel nauseous.

That story is "The Enigma of Amigara Fault". And yeah, the anime was pretty disappointing all around.

"The Window Next Door" was creepy as hell to me. "The Town Without Streets" is my favorite, even if I don't find it particularly unsettling.

Horror is a pretty hard genre to get into if you lack the imagination to immerse yourself in the penman's world. Junji Ito's works are more akin to 'cerebral horror,' in the vein of King or Lovecraft. If you can't get into the fantasy or emotional state of the characters (in what are typically short stories), you're just going to be bored. It works for some people, like myself, but others just need pure gore/shock value, which I find dull by comparison, to unnerve them. That's not to say Ito hasn't done stories like that as the man has a lot of range to his horror. His artistic style is one of the things I like most about him.

Hellstar Remina is a pretty terrifying, and underappreciated, end of the world story. Anything that involves people abandoning their humanity in the name of religion/cult is very disturbing to me, likely due to how easy it is to find real world parallels. Madness clouds the minds of a doomed populace as they hunt for the person the world eating star is named after as it looms ever closer to Earth.
