You have got to be kidding me? Another of the going to a world reincarnated thing type anime? Is it just me or are their more and more of these than ever before?

As many as there are, I feel like being a slime is just slightly different. I'm not sure if the attendant difficulties would actually make the show interesting, though. Though something about being the ruler of the slime kingdom seems like it might be more than marginally entertaining.

Nah, I've read some of it. He *very minor spoiler*
Past that, same exact OP-MC Isekai stuff.

"So I'm a Spider, So What?" is the only LN I've ever bought (and the only one I've ever read). I've seen this one under "Frequently bought together" on Amazon, didn't really expect an anime... and I still don't expect an anime of Kumo desu ga, but if that ever happens it'll be very hard to keep my expectations grounded.

"So I'm a Spider..." started off so good and different, but later chapters turned into more Overlord type stuff.... Ended up dropping that one as well.

@djason1988 It's not that I'm interested in "different" (I really like the Smartphone and Death March anime), it's that I'll go for anything with a spider as a hero/friend main character. But if it gets into too much feels-bad territory like Overlord (anime) tends to, I'll stop.

The next time someone mentions that Umamusume Pretty Derby is too weird I will be able to point them to this anime

How so? Aside from the MC being reincarnated as a slime, the setting is a pretty standard fantasy world. No anthropomorphized racing horses being felt up by randos or putting on idol shows.

If you want strange, there is a movie I saw at Otakon a number of years ago called "Eega" , where a man is reincarnated into the "real" world as a fly. Towards the end his girl friend takes him "the fly" out on dates, etc. The fly even has a music video at the end.

I read the manga and I could say that it focus on empire building, civilian administration, large scale war, and relations between different kingdoms. The main character is overpowered but the side characters did have their own character development.

Found the article and my old post about Slime Datta Ken

https://www.intoxianime.com/2018/04/ranking-de-vendas-mangas-mais-vendidos-mar-26-abr-1/

In terms of total sales at the time of the writing of this article,

1. One Piece (to the surprise of no one)

2. Tokyo Ghoul: re

3. Ao no Exorcist

4. Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

5. Diamond in Ace

Slime Datta Ken stands out to me since I had heard it was popular(both LN and manga), but had no idea it was THAT popular. I recognize a lot of other series on there are as well(Shinmai Shimai Gohan, Cardcaptor Sakura, Kimi ni Todoke, Mahoutsukai no Yome, Komi-san, Hi-Score Girl, etc.). To see it stand out like that pleases me a great deal and makes me look forward to the anime...somewhat. My biggest fear is the same fear as with Golden Kamuy and OP. That the sheer popularity of the work causes the people working on the anime to get lazy and complacent with the quality thinking that the sheer popularity of the work will carry it ie, people will still watch since they like it in spite of shitty quality.

Even BETTER Results from back in March.

4th in Manga beating out MHA, Golden Kamuy, Kimi ni Todoke, Card Captor Sakura, and Ao no Exorcist among others and came in 2nd behind only Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei. That's pretty damn good for a series about an everyday salary man dying from a stabbing who gets reincarnated into a slime in a Fantasy RPG Universe.

It's a pretty good Manga for sure, good enough I want to read the light novels, anyway. The MC does tick off several of the stereotypical LN protag traits: smart but lazy, a strangely social loner who makes friends easily, and way overpowered for where he starts out in his reincarnated life. He gains the power of those he eats, has easy access to information, and makes liberal use of information from his previous life. Where the story really stands out is the relationships he forms and how he cares for those around him.

For a shounen story there's a distinct lack of a harem, a rather large and balanced cast, and a penchant for settling at least half of conflicts through diplomacy rather than fighting. It doesn't break the mold, but it uses the genre tropes to tell a richer story. I really hope the anime studio doesn't fumble on this one.

In the novels he neither seems to be a loner (he was a virgin but not a loner) nor lazy. At the beginning he acts rather rational and only does things when he can gain something out of it or doesn't have to give up too much for it but it never came across as lazy to me.
And that's the problem here. I like the novels because of the humour, the characters, the pacing and the narration but the plot isn't anything new and the fights usually aren't that spectacular. It's not that easy to adapt a story like this properly. Even the manga adaptation failed to do this imho. It's not a bad manga but it's pretty rushed compared to the novels. One of the scenes the manga left out was the funniest in the first arc in my opinion.
I am a little bit hyped for this adaptation because if it's a good one it'll be a fun fantasy adventure with some emotional moments and a great cast. But if not then it'll be just another boring isekai with an overpowered MC.
