^ The poems were left in Japanese from what I've heard since they would be too hard to translate.

The poems are translated in the English dub in certain situations. Such as when the characters are discussing the meanings of said poems. The reading of poems are left in Japanese (with English and romanji subtitles) during Karuta matches.

There are parts of the dub where the English voice actors use Japanese syllables when memorizing the cards during matches. Most notable performance goes Adam Gibbs for his performance as Taichi throughout these sections of the dub

Kara no Kyoukai. It's been a long time since it's been out and licensed.

Witchcraft Works. Heck, it's still hasn't even gotten a physical media release.

Macross. Although there is some hope for the series being released in the West in a few years if Tatsunoko Publishing does the smart thing and refuses the inevitable offer from Harmony Gold to renew their license for the franchise. Which I am banking on the hope that Tatsunoko holds a grudge against HG for all the legal bullshit they've pulled, since the license expiry in question resulted from a dispute between the two in US federal court (and is effective March of 2021, just in time for my 30th birthday), and that the success of Frontier and Delta has brought in huge amounts of money for Kawamori and Studio Satelight and all but proven an existing market for the franchise in the west that has up until now remained unexploitable thanks to a certain greedy asshole of a copyright troll with ties to the mafia and a complete disregard for the sanctity of a brilliant sci-fi universe.

If the planets align after that we may see the possibility of an official release of Macross in the US and Europe, but I seriously doubt it will be dubbed. At the very least the songs will remain in Japanese which is a good portion of the show - there's something about the works of Minmay, Fire Bomber, Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee, and Walkure that just doesn't translate.

But OG Macross got dubbed in like 2006, it even had the original voice actor for Minmay reprising her role in English. It's just impossible to get for under $500 thanks to ADV dying and the aforementioned HG assholery.

Sometimes I wonder what a Nichijou dub would sound like if it were given an all-star Hollywood cast.
I also always imagined Sakamoto would sound like Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. *shot*

At this point tho the show is like 7 years old now and evidently wasn’t very successful, at least not until some time after it’s initial airing. Heck, it’s hard enough to find the sub of this show legally, I can’t imagine it’ll ever get a dub.

It's out on dvd/br....I own it.

Polar Bear Café. Even a subbed English language release would be fine, which I'd personally prefer, but with a dub, my kids could watch it too (they're not yet able to read).

As do I, though I only came across a copy by pure luck. From what I understand you could only get the blu-ray or DVD by ordering from Australia for the longest time, and even though it is available in physical format here in NA now it can still be hard to track down sometimes.
Unless of course you just get it on Amazon. We’re livin’ In the future :P

English dubbed, both seasons and OVA. "Gunslinger Girl" was dubbed MANY years ago. I think it's even up on Netflix now.

Not singling anyone out, and I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, but . . . isn't it kind of strange that we've had so many posts about shows that did in fact have an English dub? I've often thought this but a lot of anime fan sites fail to keep fans informed about things like this.

Out of curiosity, where does everyone get their anime news and info on dubbed releases from?

I generally get my info from checking Anime News Network daily and by scrolling through new releases on Right Stuf periodically.

If you're looking for news about dubs, those are two of the best places: ANN for new dub announcements and cast lists and Right Stuf for everything ANN didn't bother to cover and for the releases themselves.

@ Zidaryn, xxJing, shin_kaga, zubbyzub, and 198536: I just wanted to say thanks to you guys for giving English dubs a chance. Some anime fans are really closed-minded about dubbing so it's always great to see fans like you guys being broadminded about them. I'm sure my methods aren't perfect but going to ANN and Right Stuf regularly really helps you keep up with new dubs and Right Stuf's a pretty good place to buy from too. (A recent dub update: "Re: Zero" is getting a dub! I can't wait to hear Emilia and Subaru in English!)

Wikipedia is fairly good at keeping up with whether or not a show is dubbed too but you have to read a bit closer to get the info.

Ah. I misunderstood you then.

I bought mine thru Amazon about a month ago. Surprised that CR hasn't put this back on yet since they keep picking up Funi series from past and present.
