Why can't all DVDs have English subs in 'em?

okay, tell me about this. I have a lot of different movies/shows that i like and would like to purchase a dvd. But whenever i tried to purchase them they have no english subs.you know what i mean? i get so excited, then been let down for it cause i wont be able to understand it.

There was this one time when i got this Meteor Garden as my birthday present and i was SO HAPPY. But then as soon as i turned it on, there was on english subs. At that time i didn't mind cause i was like obsessed with it so i watched it without the subs, eventhough i didnt know what was going on............Don't you all think that having english as any DVD makers/companies would be more convinient for consumers and producers?

OR the 2 other option to be able to understand the language is to ask a friend to translate to you/go learn a new Language.

You have to read the back of the dvd case to check for subtitles. It costs money to get a translator so some movies/shows don't have translations unless they expect to make a lot of international sales or gets popular overseas.

You should just download the videos online if you don't have subs in your DVD player. (:
