I am not social about anime.
Why?

Well, I've tried to be social in the past, and still try to be if I can. But it's difficult for me to find people as open minded as I am. While a lot of close friends, and some family do watch anime, their interests are pretty specific. In most cases, some only prefer dubs, other cases, people only follow what's most popular..... As for me, I pretty much follow almost everything seasonal, and dig deep for real gems. I pretty much love every genre except yuri/yaoi, and senseless horror.. Also, I'm pretty passionate about my love for anime. NO, I'm no otaku, and I'm certainly no weeb! I consider myself an enthusiast! Anyways, for me the second greatest thing about anime besides watching and enjoying it, is recommending an anime to a friend and having them absolutely LOVE it.... That hasn't happened for me in awhile..... I guess I'm a little too passionate (pushy) with recommendations. Lol.

There is one more reason I don't like being social about anime... Clashes with "anime purits"! Bunch of overly opinionated a holes who think that their favorite anime, or anime genres are superior, and that other genres are harming the anime industry... As open minded as I am, I simply cannot, and will not deal with people who only want to discuss what they dislike about anime, or what needs to change.

So, are you social about anime?

I am social about anime . I also have friends who are social about it as well... i love it when we hang out, becuase we usually tend to do the famous shadow clone technique gesture from naruto in public.. since its easy to do and it looks funny when we mess it up.

No, I am not social about anime because of spoilers. I like to go into a show cold with no knowledge about what it relates to. Either I will like it or I won't solely on its merits.

I hate spoilers... But I've been good at avoiding them most of the time. Mainly because I'm among the first to see something, or a new episode. And I never spoil anything for anyone else either. Always make sure they've seen it before talking about it...... However, I CANNOT STAND manga readers posting spoilers. There has to be a special place in HELL waiting for them!

Yeah, more or less; however, I don't consider anime/manga some special topic. Anime is just one of my many interests. No, I don't really care about spoilers, because I favor rewatching/rereading value. Near as I'm concerned, any series worth my time will hold up to "spoiling."

Yes and no. I have no particular issues at all being social about it but, at the same time, you do have to read the room a bit. There are so many otherwise reasonable or intelligent people out there these days that just instantly crap on anime and will crap all over you for liking it that it just becomes an issue of it not even being worth bringing up in a lot of situations. It's better to save yourself the aggravation of again having to try to defend yourself or the medium.

This is truth. I never bring up my anime / manga and JRPG hobbies unless another person specifically asks me about them. We continue to be the pariahs of the geek world, unfortunately. ... That is why I miss the era of 1999 to about 2006. We could be a little more open about it in those days, and no one called anybody 'weeb'. No one.

I am not social in general. If anything, anime would be one of the bridges I would utilize to branch out and meet people. I wouldn't mind.

Meh.

To much focus. I was social, now it's just my own personal enjoyment right now. You want to talk about it, I can pull up some amines from the back of my mind, because I usually don't forget anime I like no matter how long it has been.

Oh well. Is what it is. There's really no point in talking about anime in my opinion unless someone actually shows some commitment.

Such is life.

It is fashionable to shit on anime fans and dismiss them out of hand. That is discouraging. Don't try to defend the medium against these serial poopers, friends. They aren't listening, your time is better spent watching anime.

I also meet quite a few people that watch anime, but they're scope is very limited. They only watch dubs, mainstream stuff like AoT or SAO, or think that all anime is shounen (a genre in which I have a hard time finding things to watch). When that is the case we don't have much to talk about unless they are looking for recommendations on what else is out there and what kind of sub-genres exists.

Guiding noobs down the path of animu righteousness is a noble cause indeed. But if you recommend too hard, you are thought to be an elitist. Don't recommend unless requested! This is the true way!

When someone does actually ask for recommendations I usually shotgun them a bunch of first episodes. Sure enough I will get texts later like "What was that show we watched where the X did Y?"

I find it is a lot less intrusive then being like "Let's watch a whole show together." *Yandere eyes*

At the end of the day, I love sharing my hobby with fellow fans. However, I don't go out trying to make that happen and instead I focus more on enjoying my hobby.

I stopped giving a flying shit about other peoples opinions about what I like and why... I advise the same for everyone else.

Sure, if I run into somebody that happens to like the same stuff as me I will talk to them about it, otherwise there really is no point in having some inconsiderate one-sided conversation with them about a topic that means nothing to them. It is a bit sad when there isn't much common ground to talk to other people about since my job is something I am not allowed to discuss, my hobbies are esoteric and I don't like most of the normal stuff people are into like sports and vanilla television.

Hell yes I'm social about it. Lots of people at my school watch it, and I get people into the good shit all the time.

I'm kinda known as the elitist though
