Musicians in movies; What are you opinions on their performances?
Posted 7/16/07 , edited 7/16/07
I was Thinking the other day about just how many musicians turn to acting because of their popularity...most of the times its a horrible travesty...but there have been some very good ones.

What are your opinions on various musicians or bands in movies?

Some to start off with some of the BEST ive seen:

I feel that every movie Frank and his Rat Pack were in was fantastic such as Robin And The Seven Hoods, even when he did a movie by himself or with Gene Kelly like "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" or "Anchors Aweigh" I always thought he was a suprb actor

David Bowie-The Labrynth, The Hunger

Judy Garland- The Wizard Of Oz

WORST:
Cannibal Corpse- Ace Venture: Pet Detective
Slipknot- Rollerball (LULZ!!!!)
Prince- Purple Rain
Britney Spears-Crossroads

Wow. Britney Spears sucks as an actress. I saw Crossroads, and I fell asleep. Ha! =]

Yea....i mean rollerball was an atrocity of cinema on the silverscreen to begin with...and then they had to add slipknot to the mix...i mean...did they secretly try to make the movie bomb on purpose? =O

I thought DMX has some good action scenes. If it requires them to not talk alot, I'm fine with that. I don't listen to rap though.

You wanna see bad? A shitload of asian celebrities (especially Taiwanese) think thye can do everything, sing and act. Unfortunately only few achieve status of being a GOOD singer and actor. Most of them are untalented eye-candy anyways.

David Bowie was pretty decent in The Hunger, but I'm probably biased. His appearance in Twin Peaks was too short to really rate, so I'll just say he walked very nice

Tupac did a good job in Gridlock'd.

Gackt and Hide in Moonchild was rather ridiculous.

I lol'd at Guitar Wolf in Wild Zero, pretty funny.

Hmm, I can't think of any other right now, I haven't seen Purple Rain, but I'll look into it...

I agree with the Moon Child thing, though i thought the movie was watchable. Hyde wasn't bad in Kagen no Tsuki (execpt for the british accent it sounded like he tried to throw on). Miyavi in Oresama was decent for me...

I don't really like when there are camio appearances by musicians in movies, it just feels cheap to me.

This thread reminds me of a policy I have... I don't watch movies with rappers or wrestlers.

David Bowie was gold in Labyrinth... I recall "the man who fell to earth" being very very strange, but it was the 70s and they were all on drugs... never did see the hunger

Mandy Moore was awesome in "Saved," being as that I used to go to christian schools I think this movie is hilarious

Meat Loaf was entertaining in Rocky Horror.

I think Cannibal Corpse in Ace Ventura was more of a cameo (like white zombie in airheads) than an actual role per se...

I think Rob Zombie deserves some recognition for making such shitty movies. He talks all this shit about how kick ass his horror movies are going to be and they suck absolute horse cock.

Oh... best movie ever right here - it even beats the shit out of glitter:

Ludacris - Crash. I thought he did extremely well for his first?, second? film. Hustle and Flow wasn't that bad either.
