It's starting to baffle my mind. I mean, who wouldn't want to drive an iconic Lada?

Or perhaps a classic Moskvich?

Cars like these have appeared in video games we all know and love. I remember seeing these cars in Destroy All Humans 2. Here's one in bright cherry red.

Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V has this beauty.

Do you think these cars should come to the United States?

I cetrainly do. What better vehicles are there to blast your Russian hardbass from?

Can I get uuuuuuh, American protectionist policy for $1000 please.

Long story short, it would cost too much to set up shop here.

The Lada Niva is a Russian car I particularly enjoy the look of.

As for why, I'd say import costs and the Cold War didn't help.

The Lada seems classy enough. As for the rest depicted, meh.

America is actually fairly protectionist about their car industry. ( can see everyone screaming JAPAN but take a look at where those "Japanese" cars that Americans are buying are made, the Toyota Corollas tend to come from Mississippi. It's also the Germans too, several BMWs in the US come from South Carolina, though the name "Greer" does sound like it might be German ) They do it through fuel, safety and emissions standards which limit many cars from entry. There's 2 entire generations of Americans who probably have no clue what a Citroën or a Peugeot are, which were sold there until chased out in the 1970's, let alone what a Škoda or a GAZ are.

As to the Lada, well the Americans already have Nissan and Mitsubishi. Since those 2 are part owners of Lada, I doubt they want the competition from their own brand. Don't bust on them too much though, as there's been a few changes since the pictures you showed were built.... http://ladasportrosneft.ru/rskg/ or the more normal version, in English for you. http://www.lada.ru/en/

And sadly, Marussia is gone, but the B1 is still a beauty....
