Final Note(s)

That's right folks! they BOTH win! What a twist, right!? I know I say somewhere in the rule ties are determined by seeding, so Lion is technically the winner overall by seed. That said, given they tied in the Final and both proved their worth time and again I have decided they can both share the crown for this year since they are both really loved and it would be a crappy way to break the tie for the overall winner by seeding. This Final was insanely close and rivaled that of last year's contest. Congrats to both March Comes in like a Lion 2 and Made in Abyss and all their fans that supported them throughout the tourney! My top pick did not make the Final. I am a bit bummed that Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid didn't win. As most of you could probably tell, it's the show I wanted to win the whole thing from the start. At least it made it pretty close! Third place ain't too bad, after all. Personally, my perfect finals would have been Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid vs. Made in Abyss. It came close to being a reality but some other shows were just too strong, haha. Not to knock them, either. I think you all picked some fantastic shows to make the Final 4 cut.

It was a crazy ride this year once again. I know the introduction of the survey to capture votes was an added annoyance to a few of you but it made this all possible. Thanks for cooperating with it and I think it worked out pretty well overall. There were not too many instances of people not doing both a text vote and survey entry after the first couple rounds. I would definitely use it again should I run another contest, as it saved me so much time and headache running things.

I'd like to give a special shout out once again to my staff for helping me throughout the tourney - ShawnHacaga, LoomyTheBrew, lorreen, and ballot_bot! You guys were awesome. I'd also like to thank everyone that participated and supported their favorite shows. I know there was a lot of heartbreak throughout the tourney but we all knew in the end only one two anime could win. And to those that stuck around even after their favorite show was eliminated, I also thank you for your continued support. Unfortunately, the voter turnout this year decreased dramatically from years past. I was saddened to see so much less enthusiasm to participate. Though, this seems to be an overall trend with the CR forums in general. Activity appears to be declining from years past as users grow older and move on and others leave for other platforms. I'm glad to have kept the tradition alive for at least this year despite that.

This was my first year running this thing, though I did help out the original creator in a previous year. It may not look like much work to run this, especially now that there is the survey to collect votes, but let me assure you it is a big commitment and requires A LOT of investment to keep running smoothly. I still had to make the round posts, surveys, results posts, help out users having trouble/not following directions, coordinate with fellow staff, and so on. Doing the new round posts, results posts, and making the surveys alone took me at least an hour a day. Over the course of four weeks, that time spent every day builds up and becomes quite exhausting. Some days I dreaded having to do my duties to make sure the next round stuff was all set and the current round was finished. If I was already tired, it was an extra push that day, haha. Despite that, I pushed forward and did this because I love these contests and I wanted to make sure all of you could continue to have fun with them, too. I just hope that you all enjoyed yourselves and appreciate the effort that goes into making this thing a reality.

I don't know what the future holds or if I will be back to host this again next year. Or, for that matter, if the CR forum will still be active enough to warrant another contest with the decline in activity I'm seeing. The daily time commitment is a real issue as the tourney progresses when you are an adult and have other more important commitments as well, haha. But hey, if some youngster here had fun and thinks they can handle the reigns next year, let me know. I'd be honored to pass the torch and I'll do my best to help you out. I'm sure my fellow staff would be happy to oblige in any way they can, too.

All that said, I hope you all had a blast and spilled your salt on this wild ride. I don't know if there are any contests planned in the foreseeable future but one usually pops up eventually. If you enjoyed this and want to have more tourney fun, keep an eye out on the anime forum as that's where the next one would appear. The tourney chatroom and directory is also a great place to hang or ask questions. And lastly, if you don't like what you see and think you could do better... well, you can always run your own tournament!

2017★Battle

It's that time of year again my fellow Crunchyrollers! The time for our favorite anime of the past year to battle it out until only one is crowned supreme among them all. Welcome to the 2017★Battle! This will be my first time hosting this event, though I did help out its original creator chrome_mist back in the 2013★Battle, so this is not my first rodeo tourney. This is also the 6 year anniversary of this contest, and I hope for many more to come! Though, I don't know if I will be able to run one again. Getting older and having less free time sucks and this is a big commitment to run. That said, if you have fun playing along and think you may want to carry the torch next year or beyond, please feel free try. I'd be happy to help anyone who wants to keep this tradition alive.

While your previous host, ShawnHacaga, is not running the show this year, don't fret! He is still a part of my crew this year. Our friendly forum mod lorreen and lovable tourney mascot Ballot_Bot are also here to assist. Much thanks to them for volunteering to help make this thing run as smoothly as possible and facilitate the fun!

For this year's contest I have made one very big and important change. For those of you veterans among us, I ask that you please keep an open mind about this change and realize this contest would not be happening at all without its addition. So, counting votes is always a very arduous thing to do, whether doing it by hand or via a spreadsheet. Sifting through vote posts and double checking things can be a real hassle and time consumer. Frankly, I no longer have the free time or patience to go through that to keep things running smoothly and on time. Therefore, I'm implementing a new two step voting system for this year's contest. But fear not! Nothing is changing in terms of how you post your votes in thread, campaign, or just spout off about why you love or hate an anime. The only thing that is changing is that there will now be an extra step to complete in order to count your votes.

Important Notice About Voting

Voters will be required to post their vote in BOTH this tournament thread AND in a linked poll/survey for the current round. Polls/surveys will be used to capture all of your votes.

The two steps for your vote to be valid and counted are:

1. Post your vote in this thread indicating your choices for the given round in text.

2. Copy over your CR username and the choices from your text vote for the given round into the linked survey in the round post. Make sure both the CR username and the vote choices entered into the survey match the ones used for your vote in this thread.

NOTE: Failure to follow these two steps may result in your vote being voided and discarded.

Further Details:

With all that out of the way, I hope all of you, new and veteran alike, are pumped for another year's battle!

I would also like to thank and credit ShawnHacaga and chrome_mist for their hosting of this contest in years past and for coming up with its general format and rules. Besides all of you passionate voters out there, this tournament would not exist without their combined efforts. Also, a special shout out to both LoomyTheBrew and ShawnHacaga for graciously taking time to provide me with some graphical support. All the custom images are their handiwork.

So, without further ado, let's all work together to make this another fun year of battling and may the best show win!

That rematch could happen, then again, there are some petty good shows that can give them a run for their money this year as well.

You're not supposed to count the first Battle as an anniversary and even then, you're early by a month! What a horribly incompetent host! Ok, I'm done messing with you now.

I can easily see both shows getting to the finals again without problems, especially since both their second seasons were stronger than their first seasons imo. The only thing that could prevent that from happening is if Made in Abyss knocks one of them out.

This will be the most stacked lineup yet. I can see it going a number of ways, whether it be a clash of titans, rumbling rakugo, heroes looking to repeat, getting to the top by going to the bottom, or being a bonehead, it's wide open.
