Perhaps this could be a good place to ask. I don't regularly watch anime anymore nor do I keep up with all the lists they put out for new anime or new anime seasons so everytime I check in an anime-centered site's homepage I do become legitimately confused like 'what is this anime' 'what is this about' 'looks cool but i don't know if it's worth it to watch'.. know what I mean?

So I'm hoping to have someone point me in the right direction and hopefully, we can have other people recommend anime too. Maybe base it off the last anime someone watched and rec something based on that? Like on Netflix or Hulu, but we're doing it old-school lmao

Last anime I watched: well, I've started watching Boruto and that's about the last "new" anime I watch. I do remember loving shows like Eureka Seven, Chobits, and some of the really popular magical girl animes like Shugo Chara and Sugar Sugar Rune. Anyone have any recs for either magical girl or mecha anime? Not sure where Chobits lie honestly...it counts as romance I think idk lol

Last anime I watched: Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card

Besides Mitchiri Neko, that's the only new one I'm watching right now. If you haven't seen the original Cardcaptor series I highly recommend it. And I'll definitely watch Darling in the Franxx when it's done airing, Trigger doesn't disappoint.

magical girl:
Sailor Moon Crystal
Madoka Magica
Futari wa Precure
Fate/kaleid liner
Little Witch Academia (on Netflix)

mecha:
Aldnoah Zero
Gurren Lagann
Suisei no Gargantia
Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans

sorta hybrid magical girl/mecha:
Kill la Kill

Magical Girl Lyrical Nahoha has always been my favorite magical girl anime franchise with Symphogear a close second. Little Witch Academia and Tweeny Witches can also be fun watches.

As for mecha ... Macross (any and all series), Valvrave the Liberator, M3 the Dark Metal, Fafner, Line Barrels of Iron, Argevollen and Buddy Complex are some true standouts.

For some fun titles that stand somewhere in the middle I'd easily recommend Arpeggio of Blue Steel and KanColle.
