Those numbers are at best completely manipulated & at worst just plain false. No, they're just plain false. They only polled single guys. That cuts out a massive amount of men in Japan. I would put my last lucky penny on betting probably around 30-40% of single men in America are virgins as well. But if you include married men & men in relationships, well, those numbers would tank. I'm not quite sure why this keeps coming up, the whole "almost half of Japanese men are virgins" myth. Probably because of the whole NEET phenomenon. And I'm sure the news articles on that are manipulated & full of inaccuracies.

I think they made the assumption that if you got married, you would not be a virgin, so they only polled never married men and women of child bearing age about their sexual experiences. The survey I posted before seems to be the source of the rumors. The survey itself is fine, but some of the media omits the qualifier that 40% of never married people in Japan are virgins. Women are slightly worse btw. CNN is one of the culprits. The survey includes men and women of child bearing age and breaks out some numbers by married and never married.

I believe you are correct that America would not be much better if they had a similar survey. I think there would be fewer virgins since America fully embraces birth control pills and other premium contraceptive methods, but it think Americans would have the exact same issues getting married. Children of my friends and employees have trouble leaving home. I'm 64 by the way. The ones that went to college and got medical, law, business or technical degrees came out just fine, got good jobs and started their own familes. The ones that just finished high school or got liberal arts degrees are sucking eggs through a thin straw. They still live with their parents and they get nothing but part-time jobs and just aren't making enough money to strike out on their own. They date from time to time, but have trouble getting a second date. And it's a lot of kids, not just one or two. Something is seriously broken.

I'll tell you what, if they think that making more ecchi anime will help motivate men in approaching women, then they are sorely mistaken.
If anything, it just makes them stay at home and do the nasty with their hands. Wait, this isn't the "I am annoyed by all these damn fan-service anime". My bad.

I don't know if the statistics are true at all, but I have asked some people living in Japan (I'm currently in Tokyo) and so far I've gotten some pretty insightful feedback that actually makes sense in terms of declining birth rates in Japan if anyone is interested.

First of all, it makes sense because Japanese people work an insane working schedule.
Most of my roommates don't even come home before 10 or 11 PM at night and some of them work saturdays as well. I haven't even MET one of them because she literally lives at work and sleeps in a sleeping bag there, so makes sense that a lot of people wouldn't really have time or need for sex right?

This leads into my second point, a lot of Japanese people don't have sex because quite a few of them already are invested in anime and pop culture, so with a busy schedule any desire to be with the other gender might easily be refuted when you can easily just rely on porn or video games that serve any sexual function (a lot of sex toys can be found in Japan, as well).

Thirdly, which makes almost the most sense to me, a lot of young Japanese people still live with their parents until they either find their own place (which is often quite expensive and hard to find) or get married. It's totally normal for Japanese people well in their 20s and even 30s to be living at home. So, bringing home your girlfriend/boyfriend in order to maybe get it on is unheard of because who wants to have sex when you can literally hear a penny drop from three rooms over (houses/apartments in Japan have REALLY thin walls so you can hear almost everything and anything). Kinda ruins the mood doesn't it?

Wait! What? Are you sure? Every ecchi anime and most fan service episodes I ever saw show the boys spouting blood from their nose whenever they see panties/girl parts. That's not real? I thought they all had high blood pressure from the large amount of salt in their diet and were tipped over the edge from the adrenaline jolt when they saw girl parts. Why would they not just show bulging eyes, hair standing on end or their hearts bulging from their chests like in American cartoons? I was sure it was based on reality. Then I saw this article when I was googling around to find an english version of the fertility survey. https://www.cnn.com/2016/09/20/asia/japanese-millennials-virgins/index.html . They have the boys in nude drawing class, presumably so they can learn how to not pass out. How can it not be real? And I presume you are going to tell me that the girls don't actually have hearts in their eyes when they see a boy they like. As if.

Well. I agree with what a Japanese minister said "STOP BUGGING JAPAN WITH THIS AND LOOK AT YOUR OWN COUNTRY PROBLEMS!"

Wait, What? Are you saying that nothing in anime relates to real life? Does that mean there arent 50' robots protecting Tokyo? That all the women in Japan haven't abandoned black hair and instead dye their hair some color of the rainbow? That all restaurants in Japan serving Western food don't have a front door that is a portal to other dimensions? That the women don't hold their hand under their chin when they laugh maniacally? That 2 out of 3 girls don't have DD's, even though they are only 14? That all the overworked male programmers aren't summoned into an alternate reality that is suspicously similar to the game they were coding? That all overworked female programmers don't have dragon maids? I think I feel like Neil after swallowing the red pill. Oh snap, that movie was based on an anime, so I guess that wasn't real either. I was thinking of visiting Tokyo but if what you say is true, it sounds so ordinary. But wait!, Wait!, What about Ramen soup? I recently finished watching Ms.Koisumi Loves Ramen. I thought all those shops she visited were real shops. Based on what you said, I went to the grocery store and bought some Ramen soup. It's just freeze dried noodles and a crushed bullion cube. Doesn't look anything like the soup in the anime. So is that all fake too?

If you look at page 14 of the actual survey I provided a link for, it is 42%. That is never married and still virgins for the 18 to 35 group as a whole. The closer to 18, the higher the %. I think 70% of 18 year olds are virgins.
