In my case, it's the original five that kickstarted the trend of color-coded magical girl teams in the first place: The Inner Senshi from Sailor Moon.

I also liked how their character arcs progressed throughout Sailor Moon's first season. Usagi was this spoiled, irresponsible brat who hates the idea of taking several rounds not only for the world, but also for her teammates, as well. She'd rather live a normal life as a teenage girl than become the only thing standing between the Dark Kingdom and the full resurrection of its leader, Queen Metalia. So most of the time, her teammates -- Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako -- not only have to save her, but also kick her ass and get her to lead the other four senshi in saving Earth from Queen Metalia's return.

I can't think of many teams, but I guess my favorite is The Hero Club from Yuki Yuna is a Hero. Normal girls are who run The Hero Club to do good deeds for the citizens of their city are suddenly recruited to fight invaders hell bent on destroying the city.
I haven't seen the 2nd season though. http://www.crunchyroll.com/yuki-yuna-is-a-hero

Yuki Yuna is a good one. That's my favorite too.

As far as color-coded sentai mahou shojo teams... this particular group doesn't really count since they don't necessarily have magical powers per se, their transformations and battles rely on a combination of undergarment-mounted jetpacks, hologram-projecting drones, the ability to transmit their singing voices through hyperspace, and dedicated military air support - but the idol group Walkure from Macross Delta does at least pull off the appearance of a magical-girl team quite well.

Magic Knight Rayearth

Got to love the whole summoned to another world to become magical girls setup. They weren't as frilly as other magical girls. Considering how many forests, jungles and deserts that had to quest through this was a really good thing.

They also had some surprisingly dark plot twists.

And they had mechs. You just have to love a magical girl show with mecha.

No contest for me: The Sailor Senshi ... minus Sailor Moon herself.

Because Sailor Moon is a spoiled, weak-willed, cowardly and spineless twit compared to her teammates, right?

I wonder if Nanoha and Fate could be construed as a team.

Eh, only at the very beginning. Once she gets her memories of her past life, she gets a lot more strong willed an serious.
Granted she's still a goofball as Queen, but that doesn't make her weak or cowardly. Just look at how much of a goofball Goku is.

As for the thread, I like the Sailor Moon team. I also enjoy the misery of the Madoka crew.

Haven't seen that many magical girl shows (particularly the older ones), but my personal favorite team is probably the one from Kirakira Precure a la Mode.

It's not my favorite season (that title goes to Splash Star), but I enjoyed the chemistry between these characters the most. I was tempted to say the Happiness Charge cures, but Cure Fortune kind of brings them down.

In contrast, the Kirakira cures are all dear to me, and each one has interesting interactions with the others. It was the first time a larger cast worked so well for me. (By larger, I really just mean more than 3)

The Outer Senshi, especially Haruka/Uranus, get big points from me. I like Haruka's determination and grit, but I also like her athleticism and fun/flirty side (when she deigns to show it). She's the candidate I'd go to for leader of the entire Senshi team (Inner/Outer) if I had my say in the matter. The de jure leader, Moon, may be kind of spoiled, selfish, shortsighted, and extremely reckless (particularly in S), but she's also the kindest of the lot. That's why everyone puts up with her nonsense, why they like her so much: she is, at her core, so sweet she might well be made of pure sugar. She doesn't really mean any harm.

The Madoka team is another good one, especially Mami, Sayaka, and Kyoko. There isn't really a member of the team I don't like, and that's part of what makes the events of the story so strongly emotionally impacting for me. They carefully crafted these sweet, relatable, earnest characters to be as easy to get attached to as possible specifically to make the breaking each one goes through that much more painful later. Cruelly clever, that, but clever nonetheless.

And, of course, there are the girls of Tokyo Mew Mew. Ichigo's fun-loving nature and exploration of first love's challenges and triumphs may be formulaic, but hey, the formula was successful for a reason, right? Besides, when one grew a bit tired of her brash everygirl routine one could always look to Mint for a bit of lighthearted ojou-sama fun. And who doesn't love that catch phrase? Mew Mew style, Mew Mew grace, Mew Mew power in your face!
