I know it was a typo, but just the thought that a "pantry shot" could be a thing had me laughing my head off

There is a borderline obscene amount of food porn in that shot.

lol, that is totally my kind of pantry shot.

Again the sex is worse than violence statements who think killing people is fine but no sex, please.
Melty Sky I understand your stance your not against sexual things your just not into light physical male-oriented comedies. In other words your not against sexual fanservice overall just that form of comedy. Now a harem often is basically a light comedy and if your not into that type of comedy that is ok.
If you're into looking at guys but not girls I understand complaints if you add I'm not into women to your complaint.

All combat, robots are fan service also. Many plays do very well showing no violence or sexual stuff. But Shakespeare has tons of sexual joke fan service and sexual matters in his plays, yes even the extremely great ones not the just great ones. So I totally reject the idea of sex being the thing that needs to be removed if anything all violence should be removed first.

japan is really into its incest stuff and for those who have been taught the incest taboo, it can be rough. Was just reading about Ancient Egypt and was surprised how much kings married their daughters, I knew sisters most of the time but the daughters surprise me.

Nah, I have nothing against raunchy humor. I've watched and enjoyed plenty of shows that are full of it. I liked Dragon Maid or even Seitokai Yakuindomo although to be honest the jokes got a bit repetitive by the end of that last one and there was a bit of over the top fan service particularly in Dragon Maid. What I hate is forced unfunny blatant pandering to the audience that derails the story or compromises the characters.

This is what I hate about the Harem trope because it is just such obtuse wish fulfillment at the cost of everything else in the story and it shows up everywhere in anime regardless of genre, everything from Konisuba to Elfen Lied. I picked those two examples because they are so far apart in genre and neither are really romances and yet both still suffered for having a harem theme. These were shows that were good enough that I still enjoyed them despite this flaw, but both of those series would have been better minus the silly harem stuff.

I'm guessing that the sex is worse than violence comment was aimed at somebody else, because I am with you on that one. Like I said I have nothing against sex. I get annoyed with audience pandering at the expense of the story and the sort of audience pandering this thread is discussing is of the sexual variety.

If you have a problem stop watching what you're watching and find something else. I'm sick of people complaining about sex.

It just didn't start overnight recently, this was something that has appeared in anime since the 70's. I just find it sad that in its modern iteration the DBS would keep the sexual fan service, especially given the fact that its a children's show.

Compared to the original Dragon Ball, Super is aimed at a slightly older crowd and more importantly the fan service in DBS is a pale shadow of what it was in the original DB. Seriously go back and watch a bit of the original some time. It is strait up jaw dropping the level of fan service that show had considering the main cast of characters were a bunch of kids.

That's only the first half of the fan service scene. I'm not going to go waste my time trying to hunt down clips of the rest of it, but basically there is a scene after this where Bulma bribes Roshi by offering to flash him, which because of what happens in the clip above, she doesn't realize she has no panties on. Anyway, although I have only seen bits and pieces of Super, I doubt there is anything there that competes with original DB levels of perversion and fan service.

Fan service has been a part of shounen anime for a very long time, and in some respects was worse in the past.
DBS is aimed at young kids, it airs in the same morning block as the sentai shows and card anime shows. Not sure what you are trying to argue after that but the fact remains that they decided to keep the fanservice (and in the case I saw was a sexual assualt played off as comedy which was pretty gross).

My whole point is that this talk about how fan service has gotten worse with time really isn't true. I was basically agreeing with you that its roots go way back. Fan service has been around for a very long time and I used Dragon Ball as an example because it is one of the few series that has run for 30+ years and serves as a good bench mark. Although they are both shounen the original Dragon Ball is also definitely aimed at a younger crowd than Super. Roshi is about half the pervert he used to be in the current iteration of the show.

Is Free! considered too much fan service?

Do you like it or dislike it based on gender, what's too much?
Panty shots based for comedy or Ladies V.S. Butlers where all nudity is used for comedy but there is at least 1-2 naked characters every episode.
Male fan service?
Female fan service?
Couldn't attractive characters be considered fan service?
Elaborate.

Anyway it sounds like the anime your watching it's either barely any and you are oversensitive our your picking poorly. The last 5 animes I have seen have had little to no fan service. So it's not like it's absolutely everywhere.

So just pick better. Not CR's job to flag something based on one person's prefrence and idea over the multitude of member's it has.

I'd love if crunchyroll starts to flag or something else that let's us know when a show has too much fan service. It's getting really tiring... most of the new shows are pure fan service or cliche. Am I the only one who thinks like that?

There is no such thing as too much fan service. There can be, of course, shows with fan service who don't deal with it well, or as well as it should be handled, and then, alas, there's the saddest of fan service show: MC-kun doesn't get laid.

Seriously, it's like when my wife asks why I'm looking at her when she's naked, considering how many times I've seen her nude. There are just things that one can never see too many times, I tell her.

Ditto fan service.

The OP talking Ecchi shows or literally any Fan Service? Lol

Honestly I think heavily featured Ecchi shows are getting to be few and far between these days and when they do they're OBVIOUSLY Ecchi shows. I think there was only about 2 that come to mind in our just finished Winter season and neither were on CR - at least not in the UK. I can only assume the OP is refering to the Funimation pickups, they love Ecchi over there so yeah they're certainly providing on the Ecchi for sake of Ecchi front.

can't really think of any show that is family friendly, even the ones stating as such you're going see some sort of "ecchi" to it. even Pokemon isn't spared. as for the other stuff, just expect it to be there and when it isn't praise the people for not having what you don't like by giving them a higher rating. that's what I do. excessive fan service and other stuff I don't care for, brings the ratings down... the things I've rated 2 and less stars... unfortunately, Japan is one of the most perverted (hentai) country out there, so you're going to see some sort of level in anything rather you like to or not. just so happens, this stuff sells (worldwide actually), so the higher the rating of the show the better chances you're going to see something. I'm blessed that the sites I watch do the "cloud editing" I'm fine with that, others, they get upset over the censoring, I'm thankful for it. so, basically, anything tv14 there's going to be a lot, anything under that, micro, when it's r (mature) expect it, for it's going to be there, including other things might considered taboo, violence or sensitive.

but, you can check out the net and see what comes of it. sadly spoilers will appear, but at least you'll know what you're getting before you begin. but it would be nice if CR and other sites would state what's present. however https://www.anime-planet.com/ is good about listing what most have regarding the content such as ecchi, panty shots and so forth, not perfect, but a decent idea. and sometimes just reading about what the show is about opens up the notion it might contain fan service.

best of luck and don't be afraid to watch something just because of what it might have, if it gets too much or you don't enjoy it, either stall or simply stop watching or slow up some and watch something more presentable, such as Card Captor Sakura Clear Card, have yet to find any ecchi or fan service in that one. there are options and ideas.

Must be the only person who has noticed less of it than there used to be :/ Remember when there were shows with ATX broadcasted uncensored versions each season? Remember when you could see a pair of bare breasts without them being obscured by "generic harem protag"?

Even Strike Witches Brave Witches didn't have nipples! That's how bad it is getting! STRIKE WITCHES DID NOT HAVE NIPPLES!!!
