A forum thread may get locked or a forum post get deleted because it violated forum rules and etiquette, was not on on topic (like soapboxing), or was posted in a condescending manner or lead to a string of succeeding posts that were condescending or it became a heated debate. It is also possible that mods or admin end up deleting or locking by accident (maybe they didn't read all of the context for each post).

However, from your experience, what are some signs of when an admin or mod knew a particular post or thread had none of the above (this applies to any web forum you have seen and/or been a member of), but they decided to lock or delete it anyway? This would be a case of them abusing their power.

All of the mods I've interacted with on this site have been fantastic and lovely, and are generally more conservative about closing threads and banning users than I believe they should be.

This is not about mods/admins following the rules, but rather when they are abusing their powers. Surely, you have seen at least 1 case where they did do this.

Mods here are relatively hands off unless there are personal attacks as it should be.
Now if there were any threads that came to mind I would be glad to point them out, but I have been here for years and have yet to run into a problem.

I think sometimes they will lock an entire thread if they dont like your opinion, rather than just edit your post or delete your post.
And no iam not talking about a personal or racial attack, i mean sometimes you can actually put thought and effort into a post, post a well written post and it will cause the thread to get locked(but having your post deleted is also annoying when its like that).

But i think in most cases that usually only happens if its back and fourth arguing and insults or if the thread is too far derailed.

I wouldn't say abuse as much as they were poor judgement calls and conflicts of interest with members of the userbase.

But yes it's happened in the past.
