Is the idea to have a continually themed article set, like "Random Historical and Mythological Associations with this Week's Splat" or is it more general boosting via "Yo, this is Arcane, this is my scotch, and This is Thoughts on the Week's Splat"?

Hi Miles,

Whats the payment scale for writing a feature? Do you pay per word? Also, is there any preference of when the anime is from? Like a recency bias?

I may be completely wrong, but with the rush to promote new shows as they start in high gear right now, I'd expect the team to be going through submissions daily, or if not then at most a delay of a few days - they specifically asked for short submissions that they can quickly consider to expedite the process. It sounds like they're not sending any reply at all if they decide not to proceed with a proposal. I'm guessing these Golden Kamuy and Steins;Gate 0 guest articles may have already come from this invitation. http://www.crunchyroll.com/newsfeed/writer/CrunchyNewsGuest

Hello.

Just to be sure, the 50 word description should be a synopsis or a sample of the pitched article?

Thanks!

I see no way "a 50-word description of what the article would look like" could mean anything but a synopsis.

Sadly while I do panel conventions and provide this stuff often enough, I am not an organized or dedicated writer and have no body of work to point to. Good luck to others though.

Hi, I would like to ask a question. I just sent in my entry and I hope everything is alright, but for the 2 examples of previous works, do I need to send in the entire script of the previous work, as that's what I did. I also linked the website which I posted that article to.

Since the submissions were closed, I must ask: Are you still considering previously sent pitches or the job vacancies were already filled?

UGH!! You've gotta be kidding me @MilesExpress999!! Submissions closed? I just found out about this yesterday while it was still active....then spent the whole day writing and researching an amazing article stipulating whether Die Neue These is a welcome non-Gundam addition to the "Space Opera" genre for folks that are shy to Mechs (or hesitant to watch more "cerebral, strategic" anime) or if it's just a wannabe, and had everything ready to go....only to come back and find the email for submissions redacted. I'm crushed! Now I've got a really pretty article to cry over. Maybe next time set a deadline so people like me don't waste a whole day thinking they've finally found their path into anime writing only to have their hopes dashed.

Yeah, I'm kind of mad, too. I was just waiting for him to answer my questions before I submitted so I'd know whether to pitch just one article on seasonal anime or that and series on their older offerings. (Especially, annoying since I PM my questions earlier and a few days later was told to ask questions on the forum post. )

I agree that if they had a sense of how long they would keep the call open it would have been good to mention that -- but it's possible (since this is the first time they've made this kind of announcement in the forums) that they left it open-ended because they wanted to see volume of response.

However, that has nothing to do with the fact that you researched and wrote a whole article, when the call was for a pitch -- not a completed article. That's on you. If you didn't already have existing writing samples (which were also part of the request) then maybe you weren't the main target for this request.

On the bright side, instead of crying over the pretty article you wrote, you could start a blog and post it there, and write some more. Then the next time someone anywhere has a call for writers you can make a short pitch, and also have some existing examples of your writing. See it as something that gives you a better grounding to take advantage of the next opportunity.

Hey lorreen,

Thanks for taking the time to give me some constructive criticism and for letting me know how things work Crunchy-side; I hadn't considered that the absence of a deadline might've been for the sake of testing the volume of responses. If that's the case, the reasoning behind it, then it makes good sense to me.

As for me writing a whole article, what can I say? I wasn't really blaming anyone for that. I was simply being thorough, as is my approach. My logic was, "Hey, if this pitch of mine gets accepted, I'll have the first draft ready to hand in!" You're right. That's totally on me. No argument there. Also, I do have a wealth of writing samples from my time as a reporter for a local newspaper, but I still think there's no telling if I would've been a target for the call.

Lastly, thank you for reminding me to be positive about my...situation. I have trouble being positive when it comes to "rejection." (I think that's a fairly common state.) I don't know how often folks out there in Anime world are looking for decent writers, but rest assured, I'm now taking the steps to make a blog to post my article to, and if I ever find out someone/some site wants a pitch, I'll be giving them a message.

Stay Heavy.
