Just watched the prologue, and then the first episode.

Episode 1

So after the prologue introduces Kyoya, who is the champion of the VR Gunpla battling game, it introduces the MC, Riku, and his friend Yukki who are getting into the game for the first time ever. And of course, things go wrong right off the start, but Riku's unwavering willpower saves the day, and it doesn't hurt that he found a cute girl lost in the mountains who happens to be the trump card Riku needed to win that battle. This is a typical kids show, but nevertheless it has lots of great intrigue to it.

Let me know what you think by ep 3ish. Honestly based on the story premise and cover art I am just not sold on the project. Feels like a into for kids to the Mecha genre.

It's the 3rd in the Build series (the other two seasons are available on Crunchy if you want to check them out).

Basically it's an advertisement for the model kits but at the same time it's an excuse for totally unabashed Mecha Fanservice and some really awesome battles. Build Fighters 1 & 2 had some amazing fights and some great characters.

and unless I miss my guess this new series may have the daughter of my favorite ship from Build Fighters 1.

Is this linked at all to the other Build Fighters series or an entirely unconnected story?

Like GB Try did It would be nice to see a familiar face make a cameo.

But I'm all for this. This series is always fun. It's always cool to see these custom Gunpula I recognize. I like thinking, "I know that Gundam." Then I look around and I'm the only one who cares....

As someone who is an old and long time super robot and Gundam fan... Plus being a big fan of the build fighters series, this first episode was the weakest of this particular sub-genre of Gundam imho. It was stil overall entertaining and got me interested though.

I have a feeling it will get better as time goes. But, the main boy so far already seems very Gary Stu. And very self-insert for the kids that this show is obviously going to be marketed to. Now that isn't a totally bad thing and I get it from a marketing standpoint. But just from the first episode they haven't given me much to get behind our main protag. His little nerdy buddy was much more interesting imho. So was his GM Cardigan Variant mobile suit. Meanwhile our MC has a "barely" modified pretty straightforward looking 00 Raiser. Which is a cool kit. the RG kit of the 00 is one of the few 144 scale kits I truly think is exceptional. Also I felt from the first episode that the "Oni" fat kid's Geara Ghirarga variant was the coolest looking mobile suit we saw in the first episode. And I am looking forward to the Red Ogre suit that was previewed for next week's episode.

That's the other thing I kind of wish they would get away from though for the "main" character's suit. It seems like most of the "top" mecha get billed across the various Strike, Exia, and 00 lines of kits. They have become Bandai's fall back kits to mod and pump out 30 different variants of for some reason of these 3 kits.

I would love to see more interesting designs from like... Geara Dogas, or Doms, or something less "balanced." It almost feels lazy for them to keep using all these super agile and super powerful Gundam and Mobiles suits in series after series.

Anyways that was just way too off on a little rant I guess as someone who builds Gundam.

Overall the animation was decent, if not a bit of a throwback to maybe a series like Gundam AGE. The world setting itself in the Gundam VR world itself seems very interesting. I think this opens up a lot of different angles they can play and a huge possibility of settings for them to fight in compared to the previous build fighters series.

Even with my nit-picking I still enjoyed it a lot. It's going to be a fun little bubble-gum and popcorn show to get people interested in building gunpla.

Episode 1, I have seen the last 2 seasons of the franchise, maybe it was 3 season plus ova fan service. Sadly I won't be able to help it and will watch the rest. I will watch episode 2 and 3 to reserve more judgement.

I am looking forward to Mechs from Gundam 00, the FLAGS are my favorite by far.

Episode 1, I have no idea why Riku had to wait and play gunpla but oh well. Riku finally got his gunpla custom and wnet online in his first ever use of his gunpla overpowered custom 00. Overall not bad for a first episode but nothing is really expected from this series other than nostalgia, selling gunpla, and all out brawl of gunpla battles.

8/10

Shows like these make me want a VR Kit; if only they'd make some worthwhile VR games though...

Just short of a few, most of them look like tech demos.

I like it so far and it seems like its set in a different time line compared to the last two seasons. Overall I am pretty excited for this season of Gundam Build Divers

I am by no means an expert and sometimes have to google search myself due to failing memory, but sure.

I am sure other users like rcsatcrunchyroll will be glad to help as well.

Agreed. It's one of the reasons I like this series. I've always been drawn to the non-Gundams in Gundam. Seeing the Gyan getting used the last two series was welcomed. I'm rooting to see a Hambrabi or a Rick Dias variation myself.
