This is why I know you have a say in the anime you show censored. You are removing part of this game because of your ties with people like anime feminist and with decisions like these I will never pay for your service ever again.

Hi! Official DanMemo Community Team here. The "touching" feature was removed from the English version of the game, yes. Not as a matter of censorship or depriving non-Japanese audiences of anything, but due to what is appropriate and not appropriate for English audiences. Hope that answers your question!

P.S. i would never play this game but thats not the point. It stinks of what you will do to any anime you may get your grubby paws on. You'll claim that because its not suitable for western 'culture' for the reason you remove shit.

*reads the Reddit page*

Wow, people are pretty virulent when talking to the game devs. Whatever happened to common courtesy?

I am really angry and disappointed, I really regret the 22 bucks I spent to support the game. I can't get my money back but I will uninstall the game, I am even considering cancelling my Crunchyroll premium account, yeah, I am that angry. I wonder what were they thinking removing features just to pander to minorities that don't even care or play your game.

I had no interest in this game specifically, but this kind of practice is just awful.

I had hopes that Crunchyroll Games would do good work when I heard about them but on their first release they censor a game. I'd laugh if it wasn't so depressing that this kind of thing still happens so regularly. I wonder what hidden wider audience these companies think they're going to rake into an anime gacha game by censoring it? Hyper Universe was killed after making changes like these to appeal to a 'wider audience', all they managed to do was alienate their core consumer and drive their games English release to obscurity.

Well anyways, I'll never support censorship so I won't be supporting any future releases from Crunchyroll Games.
Hopefully someone with some business sense or integrity inside the company corrects these practices.

As this is their first release they're setting a precedent that they really shouldn't be. That they're willing to alter these games of what they deem 'inappropriate'. Where does that line start and end? Are they going to remove characters and designs if they consider them 'inappropriate' too? It really is a foolish choice for this type of game.

Trying to attract a wider audience really isn't an excuse that they can use here. The mobile market at its core only aims at a specific type of player, the whale. Do you know how these players get attracted in these anime-styled mobile games? Waifus, husbandos and character interaction. I can't speak too much about this specific case because I don't know how deep it goes, but removing any sort of character interaction can really hurt this sort of game. I was interested in playing this game, but not interested enough to start playing after hearing that its localisers specifically gimped it. Regardless of how big this feature really is, it shows your attitude to the material your adapting and I can't support that. I've dumped a couple hundred into Granblue and I've dumped a couple hundred into FGO JP. I could have potentially done that here, but I almost certainly won't after seeing what you've done unless there's some sort of change, which shouldn't just be this game feature but of your understanding of what your audience actually wants.

I'm really disappointed in Crunchyroll for this. Hopefully they see how disappointed everyone is and do something about it, I won't be playing it unless they do.

Yeah. glad I uninstalled this. The funny thing is......what they show ON THEIR OWN SERVICE is ten times worse then a stupid touching mini game.

It's a fact that censorship brings in less money for companies.

While I had no interest at all in this game to begin with, I still have to say that this is a pretty pathetic decision. Removing content based on "what is appropriate and not appropriate for English audiences" is, frankly, garbage regardless of who it is actually pandering to. If you're going to port over the game, port over the game and let the market decide what works and what doesn't. To use their own terminology, it's not "appropriate" for them to decide what is appropriate for an entire multinational audience.

I would have actually spent some money to get characters i like but i guess they don't want money from people like me so i deleted the game.

That's unfortunate. I just saw an ad for the game and started reading the reviews. Saw someone mention the censorship in the game and like that I'm not longer interested. Just added $50 to my google play wallet too and I'm looking for something to spend on.

I had been rather enjoying the game and was getting ready to dump about $25 in for some initial pulls but when I went to look for a tier list I found out about the censorship. Real glad I did!

... Granted that money just went into FGO instead so it's not like I saved anything, but I'm happy to not support those practices.

Censorship during localization is nothing new. A lot of stuff that is localized by relatively large western companies end up being sanitized. Imagine if someone got a hold of the game uncensored and wrote a scathing article about how the game (and company) are promoting misogyny and discrimination. That would throw the company's reputation down the gutter, no matter how sensationalized the article is. That kind of negative PR is much worse than the negative PR generated by censoring the game.

It's not just the USA that does that. The Japanese do it as well. When Yostar localized Azur Lane for Japan, they censored depictions of the atomic bomb. The heavy cruiser Indianapolis sits on an atomic bomb in the Chinese version of the game, but in the Japanese version the atomic bomb symbol is removed. There is also a furniture set that has the atomic bomb, but that is replaced by something else in the Japanese version of the game.

I know that the removal of an anticipated game feature is disappointing, but censorship of games by region is something that happens all the time in the game industry.
