For prior conversation in anticipation of this show, see /forumtopic-995593/devils-line-anticipation

Anzai, half vampire, and Tsukasa, a normal school girl.

Vampires seem to be living among humans. Of course the government does not know of their existence, because their appearance does not differ from humans. They also do not need to drink blood, but when they get a craving or get angry, they can become uncontrollable monsters.

The first episode is now up on HIDIVE: https://www.hidive.com/stream/devils-line/s01e001

Dubbed episodes for this show will go up on HIDIVE two weeks later as this is one of two shows Sentai is doing their first ever broadcast dubs for.

Episode 1

I'm getting Tokyo Ghoul vibes here as instead of ghouls needing to eat flesh to maintain their sanity, it's vampires needing to drink blood to stay upright. Akimura tried to do what he can to protect Tsukasa, but murdering other women just didn't sit well with anybody, especially Anzai. Pretty interesting start there as the relationship between Tsukasa and Anzai is something that I hope will develop into something substantial. I have a feeling that things are going to end up a struggle like they are in Tokyo Ghoul, except that the focus is more on the romantic aspect.

Eh, it's a dark show and the OP song has that edgy feel to it.

At least they seemed to get the main guy's personality right so far based on the manga. I'm not really impressed by the vampire gimmicks in the show. However, I will say the show is able to handle the dark grimmer atmosphere right so far. The animation quality also seems decent for this particular studio (I personally think one of their previous work "Servamp" is pretty mediocre) The fated encounter between the two main characters so far felt kinda meh though. I really hope they improve the character chemistry in this series.

Otherwise, I'm going to keep expectations to a mid-level for the show. It could either be good or bad. First episode felt so-so to me.

Matsuoka's deep voice is an awesome match for Anzai! Can't wait to hear the expressive tones yet to come.

Gotta love female police detectives pursuing perpetrators across buildings, engaging in close combat and even landing a flying kick all while wearing heels. That flying kick - just ouch. There goes that pair of shoes.

And now I can guess how each episode will likely end: Wanting more.

This one does have that Tokyo Ghoul feel to it and that cop Jill's pretty badass.

So far, I find the first episode to be alright. I'm curious though as to how the storyline will go from hereon out.

Who ever did the sound mixing on this show needs to be replaced, the screams are so compressed and clipped that it takes me out of the show.

I wonder if the female detective is a vampire hunting or something, she seemed to be able to hold her on while fighting that vampire. This rapey feel of the show and then at the end god damnit LOL

That ending scene was very creepy. This day is going to scar Tsukasa for the rest of her life. I do like the somewhat dreary atmosphere of the show, and that the characters are college students (which is rather uncommon).

Not a bad start to things and I can definitely see coming back for more. It would have been nice if it felt like there was at least a little bit of chemistry between Anzai and Tsukasa though. Sure the situation wasn't extremely conducive to a standard meet cute but there were none of even the most typical anime signs of interest or attraction between the two.

Yeah I also got the Tokyo Ghoul vibes, and since I am not really a fan of that show this is going to have to show me something different the next couple of episodes for me to stick around.

Episode 2

So Anzai uses a sedative from a syringe to control his vampiric urges, and just like with Kaneki being a half-ghoul trying not to eat flesh, Anzai is a half-vampire trying to not drink blood. In the meantime, a vampire wife murders her human husband out of need to drink his blood going to show that a human-vampire couple is more likely to fail. They used to be illegal, but now it is with consent from both couples and a doctor. And then the professor Ochiai tries to rape Tsukasa even though he's married with children, and with Anzai not getting the full picture of the situation he attacks the professor and nearly kills him. That just goes to show how dangerous having a relationship between a human and a vampire can have as all reason is lost when the vampiric urges takes over. This is more in-line with what I was expecting, and while it feels like Tokyo Ghouls, the focus is more on romance than it is on the police drama and action.

I'm on the fence still about this anime. There are aspects I like, but certain things that just seem implausible even for that setting. And are we ever going to find out what happened to Akimura? Or is he now forgotten that he's no longer needed for plot?

I got Twilight vibes unfortunately after watching this. The main girl was pretty.... uh.... air-headed the first episode.
You'd figure her mind wouldn't jump to a guy that stuck his tongue down her throat, she hardly thought about her friend that was a vampire the whole time she knew him.

I can't say I like the idea of vampires having lower jaw fangs along with upper jaw fangs. Kind of makes them look goofy. Tsukasa goes quickly from a woman who doesn't seem all that interested in romance to BANG! having the hots for a half-vampire with dark bags under his eyes. I'll give the title some more time to see where it's going but it may be a future drop.
