Not going to lie, this show is extremely mediocre for me. Every episode so far feels the same and I can't feel much attachment for the relationship between Anzai and Tsukasa. It doesn't help that Tsukasa acts very awkward when around him. The weird dream she keeps having is also becoming distracting.

The vampiric gimmick for this show is really edgy and I don't feel like the characters are worth investing into. Going to keep watching this to see if it improves but so far, it has been a letdown.

The dub for this show is now out to mark Sentai's first ever broadcast dub, called a dubcast in their terms.

Episode 3

Tsukasa and Anzai spend some quality time together over hot pot on New Year's Eve, and while getting groceries, she runs into Katagiri, who is a devil, and seeing him helping her out goes to show that while devils try to be good, their inner urges push them to lose their mind. Those two continue their relationship while Anzai is on suspension, but just when things were going well, a sniper shoots him. That pretty much falls in line with the main theme of Tokyo Ghoul in that there are bad humans and bad devils, and it's the good humans and good devils that suffer because of it. Unfortunately for Anzai, society isn't so forgiving towards devils as that sniper brought out the worst in him.

Well, the production values are just lacking here, but I'll at least watch one more episode as episodes like these are why I was so into Tokyo Ghoul. That said, things need to turn around, and fast.

Unlike others here it seems I prefer the slow-burn of DL to the breakneck pace of TG. Sure, graphically TG is superior but the characters just seem less human (I know most of them aren't supposed to in TG) . While TG is like 90% action 10% romance it's pretty much flipped here so far. It's more a romance anime with a bit of action. That said, it should be compared more to something like Violet Evergarden or Worldend than to TG content-wise.

Now, as to the show itself: animation-wise it's the same level as Hito the Outcast or King's Game. It's more classic animation style than high end glitz (due to a forced lower budget most likely) but for what it's supposed to be it can be expected. This was never meant to be a season blockbuster but just something somewhere in the middle of a line-up obviously. As a gothic romance, it's handling itself quite well for me. Seeing Yuuki's struggle against turning into a monster due to love (and his very core of his beliefs that devils and humans shouldn't mix) mixed with Tsukasa's inability to see men in a romantic light (until now) seem to show a truly dysfunctional romantic relationship of any kind quite well.

Now to say that the action-side of this anime was in anyway intense would be a laugh. As far as action goes this new sniper (who although her reasons are trope seems a bit refreshing) and this vampiric corrupter we meet next episode may add a bit more to the mix. I'm actually enjoying this as a tier 2 title for me this season. I won't be dropping it but also won't get as excited over watching it as I do when Darling, DXD, SG-0 or Food Wars eps drop. If someone asked me my numerical rating for this show so far I'd have to give it a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 as a whole or an 8 out of 10 as a romance.

Episode 4

So it turns out that those hunters use body temp to weed out the devils, and Anzai's is higher than a normal devil's because he's trying to suppress his urge to suck blood, and that's why 07 attacked him. They meet another half-devil in Hans, and while he sucked his blood, that didn't exactly make the situation any better as Anzai hadn't built up his tolerance. Tsukasa's face got scarred, and since then she hasn't seen him, all while she has been hanging out with Hans. The drama really picked up here, especially at the end when a reporter was murdered during a live broadcast, and now Tsukasa is conflicted after all that.

Episode 5

So after seeing the broadcaster attacked on live TV, devils everywhere are starting to go on the attack. Tsukasa has a plan that just might work to keep Anzai alive as long as possible with those sedatives. And while hiding, they run into Hans again to get them out of a jam, and that's when Tsukasa learns that the average life span of a devil is only 39 years, roughly half of a normal human. To combat that, Tsukasa is letting Anzai drink her blood. While that's goin on, 07 is stabbed by Murakami for opposing Plan B, which is to have humans sacrificed to draw out the devils and exterminate them, and then Kikuhara in turn kills Murakami, while licking his blood.

Man, things are just so chaotic here I don't know where to begin. Nevertheless, it's clear that Tsukasa is trying to keep Anzai alive as long as possible, all while the police force is determined to smoke out the devils after what happened with the life broadcast. And then there's something about Kikuhara there that indicates that he might be a devil himself, but it's not clear if he is or not.

That is interesting, the color red can trigger their hunger without actually having to be near blood. I really hope they can go with their blood tolerance plan. It seems Anzai's co-workers have no problem with their relationship.

Episode 6

As it turns out, that reporter and Nanako, a.k.a. agent 07, both survived and are in the hospital, but Nanako is none too pleased about what Kikuhara is doing as he's out to get humans to distrust vampires. As it turns out, Hans Lee's real name is Johannes Kleeman, and he's being rather carefree in a situation like this as he and Anzai take out someone who is using ketchup to look the part of a murderer. All while the security force is getting more corrupt as they end up going after humans who are only believed to be devils. It's a much calmer episode in comparison to all the chaos the last time, but nevertheless it's tension-filled.

This is getting interesting, traitors everywhere. The old man appearing in the episode knowing about Anzai and Johannes. They are connected to the orphanage but Anzai does not remember. Kikuhara found something about Anzai's past in the crime books at the beginning i think? Also it seems that people think vampires r rumors and don't actually believe that there is any based on the conversation with Tsukasa and her friend.

Episode 7

Nanako is on the run as she's not on-board with the eradication of devils. Seeing that she doesn't kill humans that Tsukasa goes along with her. They end up in a hotel, but then they get found out by Ushio. Tsukasa poses as a hostage, and then uses a stun gun to get away, but then she runs into him again when she happens to enter the room he's staying at. It turns out that Ushio is a spy for the CCC, and while he sympathizes with devils, he's on-board with their mission to exterminate devils to free them from their pain of bloodlust. That was full of thrills as it goes to show that the CCC doesn't give a damn about what the devils really are. They will just kill them.

Ooooh, next episode is the 'experiment'. Matsuoka is doing such an awesome job with the deep voice – I've been eagerly awaiting to hear how he'll handle Anzai in this situation. Don't think I've ever heard him in a similar role before.

Episode 8

So Anzai can transform without drinking any blood, which is quite useful seeing that unlike other devils, he's in control of himself when he's in a trance. He got used to it thanks to the doctor, so that's what got Tsukasa out of a bad situation. And then they have a heart-to-heart chat about their relationship, and then comes the kiss. Pretty much, this episode was about Tsukasa and Anzai establishing their relationship, all while the doctor is taking measures to keep his body cool since that's what the CCC uses to detect devils.

And in the meantime, there's something about Midori seeing that she sensed something unusual about Anzai. I have a feeling I know who she is seeing that she's also in love with the devil Tamaki (and the credits pretty much give it away, but nevertheless it isn't hard to figure out).

"You kids can use this room to make out, while us doctors will be on the other room monitoring your heart rate and watching you on the cam. Here's a pair of handcuffs and some nail protectors."

It may not be the exact words, and I'm aware that they all need to do this for safety precaution & training purposes, but damn. That started off awkward.

Also, we finally get to see a bit more of Anzai's family background.

Episode 9

This episode is mostly about Nanako's background as she's on the run from the CCC, all while Ishiharu has been put in charge of Squad F as unlike the others at CCC, he's not looking to eradicate the devils. While Ishimaru has bags under his eyes, that's because he's a workaholic and not a devil. As it turns out, Nanako came to despise devils because her stepfather-to-be, Morisawa, raped and murdered her mother Sayuri when he went berserk due to the lack of blood. Thus, she didn't want any of the devils to become another Morisawa, all while Kikuhara embraced her. But now, the situation has changed as Kikuhara's extreme measures are causing all sorts of chaos around the city. But before that, there's a huge protest going on demanding the devils to die, but that was all a trap to bring Anzai to Ochiai. Damn, Nanako sure had it tough, but at least she's back to her senses, but the situation has gotten out of hand.
