I want this to be good because I don't own a PS4 and they wont release the game on Vita or PC. However, I know all too well how studios tend to butcher the hell out of game adapted anime (unless the studio is Kyoto or White Fox).

They may do Vita. When they released Persona 4 Golden, it was on the Vita. So if Atlus makes another Persona 5 game (which they usually have in the past) it might get ported to Vita if you're lucky.

Anyway, I have high hopes for this show, I thought the first episode was handled well, but like I told a friend, "If you haven't played the game, it might be really confusing." I might even go replay it while it airs just to get a perfect comparison of the two

In Japan, the game did receive a Vita release. The game had to be divided up between two cartridges (or bought as a monstrous digital download).

Also it is worth noting they have upped the graphic violence in the anime from what it was in the game.

Red = Game
Blue = Anime

Ren getting beaten by the police was over fast in the game, with most of it happening off screen, we just see the end and 1 or 2 injections
Ren in the Anime getting full on hit, kicked, stamped on, punched, dragged and the police give him 4 injections

Train Driver going to fast due to a loss of cognition, has white eyes, train speeds into the station fast. People jump out of the way
Train Driver going really fast and face all messed up, train comes into the station far too fast and derails on screen, people flee for their lives

Sojiro just mentions what went down in court
Ren is shown in court being very clearly in distress

Ryuji was knocked down in the palace

Ryuji beaten and dragged to the floor and then still hit

It will be interesting to see if this pattern follows as there are some graphic scenes from the games, these are under the Spoiler Tag.

So it will be interesting to see if the more gory parts of the game will be even more so in the Anime

Pretty sure they announced awhile ago that they had no plans to make a vita port; I could be wrong though.

I live in japan and no they did not release it for the vita as two carts or a single download. You must be thinking of the P5 dancing game. Though to my knowledge that wasn't that large of a game either.

They combed over multiple parts. To be expected I guess. As someone who’s familiar with the game I’m not surprised, 24 episodes is not nearly enough to compress 100+ hours of gameplay. I guess what bothered me a tad is that it was well animated, but the pacing despite being “decently” fast still felt dodgy, the omissions of little bits like the scene where Kawakami and Kamoshida talk about Akira (Ren, I’m still used to calling him Akira Kurusu goddammit), the scene with the assault case was kind of combed over (where’s my “DAMN BRAT ILL SUE” line?), the fact that they also skipped through his arrival in Yogen Jaya with more of a tell don’t show visual presentation, I don’t know. Again, at least the designs are en point, although I will admit that I’d rather see IG produce this, their animation for the game was glorious lol

Best part was seeing Kamoshida’s fabulous sparkly cape. Nice deets, animators. Although they didn’t give him the heart speedo, it’s just solid pink now. Welp. No, serious, I love stupid little details like that.

Well more details of the assault case might get filled in as Ren tells the others why he is there, as most people think him a thug at first .

For those who watched it. Do I have to play the games or watch the other shows to enjoy it?

I don't think you'll need to in order to understand it or get some enjoyment out of it, but it really does feel like you'll probably get more out of it if you have played Persona 5.

At this point in the game, they're just about to start explaining at least a bit about what's going on so I would imagine the anime will be the same. As someone who had only dabbled in the previous game and was playing P5 as my first real attempt at the series, I did start to "get it" soon after where the first episode of the anime ends.

The one thing I'm looking forward to is the music. P5 has fantastic music. I really hope it keeps a lot of that music in the anime.

You don't have to, but you might be a bit lost. I prefer the game because it's more choose-your-own-adventure. Even after watching the anime, you'd probably still fall in love with the game.

This could be big news to us who know the game. And this article is very short, and spoiler free.
