Huh. Strange. *Googles, confirms* My source must have given me bad information. My apologies.

There's apparently an opening theme song for episode 2 but it serves as a placeholder for now. (probably to avoid spoilers)

I think I'm going to watch this show quietly for the season to avoid spoilers too. Havent played the game yet...

Well, that just felt kind of sloppy to me. I know it's going to be hard for them to cram all of the story and atmosphere into anime form but Ep2 just didn't feel great. They included most/all of the relevant story but pretty much all of the atmosphere was lost, and that "fight scene" just looked straight up bad.

This could be big news to us who know the game. And this article is very short, and spoiler free.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. They are going to have to changes things to fit it within the time allotted to them. The question is how far will they change it from the game?

Thanks to this week I wonder if there is another timeline where Production IG took care of the anime instead of A-1. This episode was just kind of a letdown on all fronts. Well aside from the soundtrack but that comes straight from the game for the most part. Really hoping it gets better next week.

Never played the game, knew nothing of this anime. But does the game world affect the real life world? Im getting the gym teach is the bad guy here.

Yes the "dream world" does impact the "real world", but not really directly. It's not like If you burn down the "dream world" castle then the actual "real world" school will burn down or anything like that. At the pace they're moving at, you'll probably see at least some of the connections in the next episode.

So I guess this episode shows that Kamoshida physically abused Shiho. The game suggested that he actually raped her and many people, myself included, were under that impression.

I going to have to disagree with you about this episode, I think that they did a good job capturing the atmosphere of the game. Or rather, I think that Persona 5's strongest trait isn't necessarily atmosphere but style, that unique look which makes Persona 5 stand out from other JRPGs and even previous Persona games.

So when I see little things like the cut-away frames of the characters faces and the acid effect each time as they leave the palace I feel right at home. It's to the credit of Persona 5's original design that the game's key visuals can be translated directly to the anime, which is why I'm quite pleased with how things are going so far.

It's possible that the anime might hint more about the situation next episode. Like the game, nothing was directly shown, only implied about Kamoshida raping Shino. That's probably the direction the anime will take, dropping hints without showing anything directly will magnify Kamoshida's crime far more then anything gratuitous.

In regards to the abuse we saw:

Got to say, actual seeing the physical abuse was a nice touch. We never got that in the game really, or at least not on the same level. Seeing his furious expression and Shiho's own terror as it was turned towards her was something that really stood out.

Yeah I remember now, this isn’t the part when Kamoshida actually “abuses” her. It was right before Ann joins the MC and Ryuji.

They are really upping the violence in the anime

Game

Anime

Shiho is seen with her face all brusied AFTER the attack took place
The attack was shown and Shiho was punched to the floor. Ren was also hurt by Kamoshida who cut his face open

Other than that, the rest of the episode was filled with some pretty amazing stuff, I loved how Ren refused to be knocked to the floor and faced off with Kamoshida, bringing 'Joker' out into the real world.
Kamoshida knew he had messed up then and moved on from Ren.

The big thing though - Ryuji calling Ren 'RenRen' was the highlight of the episode

More violence, yes, but also more content, if only just a little. It feels like the anime is trying to fill in a few blanks that the game leaves. Granted, the anime will never be able to cover all the ground that the game offers, but this is kind of a neat approach. (Poor Shiho.) Also: Yeah, those screencaps definitely remind me that this is still A-1 Pictures.

As I have never played any of Persona games I think the anime so far is good. Animation was good and the soundtrack. I did like the P3 movies as well.
