MAJOR 2nd

Synopsis from Crunchyroll:

Shigeno Daigo is an elementary student whose father, Goro, is a professional baseball player. Inspired by his father, who was once a Major League player, Daigo started playing baseball with the Mifune Dolphins, a youth team. However, he was unable to live up to the expectations of being the son of a professional, and quit baseball after less than a year. Then, in the spring of his sixth-grade year, Daigo's school welcomes a transfer student, Sato Hikaru, whose father is Sato Toshiya, a former Major League player and Goro's close friend. The fate of these two young men begins to move forward!

I'm not familiar with the first series, but I really enjoyed this a lot and now I want to see that, as well as look forward to this "next generation" version in upcoming weeks.

Really nice job in this initial episode of setting the background, giving a solid first impression of key characters, and giving a sense of where the tension and drama will come from. I appreciate that it seems like the adult characters will be a real part of the show.

That's a pretty rough start for Daigo. Being part of a family of baseball fanatics (with the father as a pro), the expectations he leveled on himself was daunting. He practiced and practiced but couldn't get the brilliant start he wanted. Seeing him quit and get destroyed by that pressure was rough. I do think he'll get out of his slump and try again, but 2 years of stagnation is shocking.

I watched all the Majors up to 6 with the OVA-I like the spin on this Daigo is having hard time not being great athlete like his father
His dad was all about practice and hard work not sure son will have same success? Curious to see the path he goes down?

I'm sure he will be out of his slump or else we wouldn't have much of a show. lol.

It is hard to live up to expectations and especially ones as high that when everyone in your family has played baseball and are talented at it. You get frustrated and mad that you aren't living up to these expectations and things aren't going the way you want it.

I can't wait to watch more to see how Daigo tackles this now and it seems to be in the direction of being a catcher instead from the promo material.

It's nice to have Major back! Though, I'm missing some of the cameos from side characters from the previous series because it's been a long time. I can't remember who they are. Time for the internet.

Though in many ways this is a typical sports anime, it also has some atypical aspects that really makes it all the more enjoyable. The fact that the MC despite his background is no more than an average player at best. And how great a handicap the weight of expectations can be, of our own and that of others, on our ability to perform. I really like how they managed to show how that crushing weight of expectation turned something he loved into a source of pain. Just sad, perhaps for plot reasons, that all the adults around seemed unable to actually TALK with him about this, if even really aware of what the problem was.

I had to laugh that Hikaru had the confidence to catch that ball and utterly failed at it. And probably the next episode or two, Daigo's classmate (the one who has a crush on him) will join the team too. I can't wait to watch more. This show is comforting to me since I loved the original series so much.
