So Digibro uploaded this very interesting video that has made me think a lot about the current state of the anime industry.

With so many anime is being produced and pumped out each season and our awareness of how animators get criminally underpaid there are times (not all the time) where I think that the quality of anime today (story and production value) has diminished a bit.

I'll admit I came into this video initially thinking Digi is kind of acting like an elitist hippy but overall I thought it was an interesting video that I both agree and disagree with. What do y'all think?

FYI: Digibro is high as shit or under the influence on something in this video lol.

He's not really a blow hard though. In fact, he's the only anime youtuber i've ever seen (besides maybe one or two of the youtubers who basically act like his apprentices) who actually came out and defended newer anime. Even though that seems contradictory with this video in mind, he's actually a big fan of new stuff.

I see tons of animes that are good that are rated 5.0 on MAL due to being mediocre but the manga is 8.0 etc and something i came to notice is.

Anime fans are ELITISTS and HATE anything mediocre that doesn't bring something new sometimes it's nice to have a mediocre show that brings nothing new to the table but is just nice.............but Anime fans will bitch whenever that happens.

We haven't accepted it far from it but we SHOULD

Sure he may be pretentious, conceited and narcissistic but he does have a valid point. Nobody wants to see seasonal shitty shows that exist purely for the sake of making a quick buck, most would rather wait for the more ambitious and fulfilling projects to come in fruition, contrarily however this view is entirely subjective and should be taken objectively as Digibro (as always) is claiming he is the only sensible person in this scenario, he isn't, this is a matter of perception and individual taste

I do want to say I'm not a fan of the content he puts out nowadays. It's too weird and somewhat depressing.

Yeah, that's why I didn't take this too seriously but I still thought this was interesting.

I think the other issue is is that Western anime fans have a much more eltist and mixed up view on anime and manga than most here in Japan and the East. I mean just look at the shows that become popular here, but are much less liked in the west.

A big example of this is High School fleet. Y'all have no idea how huge it is. It sells out of pretty much any kind of merch there is here for it. Yet I know while it was airing, at least on the CR forums here, it wasn't liked at all.

Look this season at Uma Musume: Pretty Derby it is already blowing up here in Japan, but has mixed reviews so far at best with Western audiences.

No he isn't ....

He just has standards. But he defends "trash" or new anime pretty often.

Depends, mediocre animation or mediocre story telling?

The former is concern I can understand, the latter is being a douche nozzle. Why? Simple, what passes as mediocrity for one can be considered of viable quality to another being. I think there are many terrible anime produced , but I am flabbergasted at what the title is suggesting.

That people accepted mediocrity, rather than having more lax standards and different views in regards to what is "well made" anime.

I would have to watch the video, but I do not think we have accepted mediocrity, because what is mediocre to me is quality to others.

Everyone likes what they're gonna like.

Besides, come back at me with this when he wounds up voicing something on an anime like that one youtube dude did for Pop Team Epic!

I've heard or read that pre-Japan economic bust Anime OVAs were more ambitious and unique.

Well, after seeing the documentary "Tokyo Pure" (2014) and "Love and sex in Japan" (2017) it became pretty obvious to me that ALOT of the anime that's being produced has nothing to offer to someone who is not a part of or don't identify with this social culture.

So I would have to agree with digibro on this one.
