For prior conversation in anticipation of this show, see /forumtopic-963041/nil-admirari-no-tenbin-teito-genwaku-kitan-anticipation

Didn't see any other thread, am I the only one who watched this?

I liked the earth tones used for the color palette guess this is a bishounen show? Though the MC is a girl and there is a woman on the team. Again not a fan of the hair cutting trope but at least she left it shoulder length and the other woman still has her long locks intact. Guess I'll stick around for a few episodes at least, I always enjoy shows about books.

Episode 1

Not a bad start there as this whole cursed book thingy certainly has intrigue. Tsugumi's brother nearly burned himself to death but he's still standing. Now, she's working for an organization determined to put a stop to these evil books. I generally don't have high hopes for these kinds of shows, but at least it's off to a decent start as it avoids some of the biggest problems that dog otome game adaptations..

I couldn't maintain enough interest to keep watching the show after the first half. Felt like alot of pointless scenes to fluff out time that were easily rendered moot with a single line of dialogue (i.e. the shopping bit). The dialogue felt stiff and the random shifts to earth tones felt more distracting than anything else. Not my cup of tea, even with an eclair.

I watched it and while I liked it a bit better than I have some other initial episodes of shows of this type, I'm taking a wait and see approach. Like you, I'll stick around for a few episodes at least and see if it can keep my interest and not annoy me too much.

Definitely not off to a strong start, this one. Also, the end credits really makes sure you know what this show is REALLY about.

One thing that kind of stuck out to me is that everything moved really stiff, like there weren't enough key frames or whatever.

If you watched any older anime especially with nobles and possible English themed shows. This style is common in telling a story for 20 plus episodes. Not tons of action heavy emphasis on music in back ground to help express emotion and long well drawn out plots. My guess this show will move slowly and might not be to a lot of anime fans liking. I am going to stick it out and see how things progress.

Episode 2

Tsugumi is now meeting all the boys that work for the library, as well as get a tour of the place. Tokimiya is quite a helpful lady there in helping Tsugumi navigate through the place. And then she begins work as she's the only girl in the division wearing a short skirt after being used to wearing long dresses, and it's really cute. Her first job is to investigate a cursed tome that turned out not to be cursed. That was a pretty typical episode at the start of an otome game adaptation where all the dudes get introduced, and they all have various personalities as expected. That was another alright episode, but one that wasn't exactly convincing.

Dang, the pacing is slow for this show. They could of introduced the main guys properly for the pilot episode but I suppose pacing will pick up soon.

I'm not sure if this series can get me invested into Tsugumi's character role yet but we'll see. So far, she seems like a really generic otome adapted character.

Agreed. Having the same problem. The premise for the story is interesting enough, but if they focus too much on her and the boys at the cost of the story, I'll lose interest. Add to that as you said she is already the typical generic (slightly bland girlish) otome character that if anything I rather dislike.

I was hoping given the muted colour palette for the characters and backgrounds they were planning to use it in the way Konohana Kitan used colour to emphasize scenes and lead the viewers' eyes. Instead they seem to just be randomly adding punches of brighter colour like the azalea bushes in the courtyard. A real missed opportunity.

This was pretty much episode 1 part 2 as they went about introducing more characters. Hopefully with episode 3 things will pick-up.

Ooh boy you called that one right.

On this week's episode Kuze gets a new outfit and has trouble keeping up while walking...yikes.

I assumed that the reason she kept walking behind them was cultural, and therefore out of habit. Meaning that the whole point of making such an issue with that was to show that she was leaving her traditional gender role, and assuming one of being equal with males, but finding it a bit hard out of habit and her own attitude. I'm not sure what the anime's actual POV was about this, as it felt mixed.

It's not that it's slow paced, it's that it's not interesting.

It really seems like it's just made for fans of the game. What with the opening, and the fluffy dog mascot thing in the eyecatch, which seem incongruous with the story, if you're not already jumping up and down with excitement just because these characters are here, you're not going to find much to stick around for.
(It definitely varies, though - most people say that about TsukiUta, but I got into Tsukiuta through the anime. ... TsukiAni's opening is stunning, though.)

Character designs are by the artist of Diabolik Lovers, btw (Satoi). I'm not into DiaLovers, but I'm really into Rejet's other flagship series, Pythagoras (see my icon). (Which is nothing like DiaLovers, by the way.)

Anyway, yeah, it's not the pacing that's the problem, it's... that there's nothing interesting or captivating going on here. Nothing to draw you into the story.

What I learned this week....

Don't run in front of trains. Still not sure how I feel about the main characters besides Tsugumi. I feel like they're trying to connect the guys to her but it doesn't feel well done so far.

The story itself still feels blend.
