Hey guys and gals,

I wanted to start a poll on regarding the reaction of those close to you who are not familiar with anime and manga. Specifically, the reaction of parents, grandparents, friends and people of the previous generation etc. who are not familiar with anime or manga.

Thanks,
Masaki Takeda

cold hard facts, it is cartoons from Japan, and all of those options are suitable for my family, my dad was alright with it, my mom didn't care for it, she just didn't find it interesting. and my best friend watches it so they are excluded from the list. the cartoons from Japan range from kid friendly to adult just as any country does. so, if a person is interested they are going to watch it, if not they won't. same with comic books from Japan. all their terminology.

I introduced one of my friends to anime and he began a binge watching spree followed by one with me (all of Fate/Zero in 3 sessions). Another friend I have already had watched AoT and since we both discovered we liked anime four years ago, we've been watching shows ever since (all of HunterxHunter, Erased, Re:Zero, Danmatchi just last weekend, etc.). I also have one girl friend who I binge watch with, and I even got my mom into Attack on Titan. At first I thought she was just sort of making an effort to understand it (since she knows me and my mates sit around watching it), but then she asked me to watch it one night out of the blue without me having even mentioning a similar topic first. Also, my sis wants to watch Fate/Zero as well, just need to get around to it. Hopefully she'll like it since it'll be her first anime ever.
I do have a couple of friends who are completely adverse to it and are caught up on the weird stuff people post online about anime, which is unfortunate, but I won't push it on them of course.

Overall, I'm lucky to be around a lot of open minded people and we have a lot of fun with it.

I sometimes watch anime downstairs on the TV with my mum around, and she doesn't mind it. She glances over and asks questions from time to time. The show she got particularly curious about and asked me lots of questions about was Tokyo Ghoul. I think she likes to learn stuff and understand the culture but doesn't particularly care for watching it. She can however name characters from some older anime.

My stepdad is indifferent, and doesn't pay any attention to it. He doesn't care at all and doesn't want to understand, and that's fine.

My younger sister on the other hand [17 years old] has bullied me and treated me like an outcast all throughout growing up for liking anime, but now that her current boyfriend likes it, it's perfectly fine and cool to like.

At this point it seems that everyone likes anime in the big cities of California, so it's more uncommon to find someone that doesn't like it. Like I saw a Culinary school that was sponsored by Food Wars on a billboard while driving home one day.
