Episode 1

Nagisa sure is a wreck there as she puts in all that effort, but realizes that she's just not cut out for the sport. Ayano is also that way, but for a different reason as she just doesn't find the game fun and more of a pointless activity. Ayano had to be dragged over, and as is the case with lots of sports anime that I have watched, the unmotivated MC has a match, and if things go as planned she finally understands what she had been missing and will fully embrace the sports. Quite a dramatic way to open up things.

Episode 1

The first episode was fucking amazing!! damn the animation looks good and you can tell in great detail when the person sweats. When it comes to the story Nagisa lost a match to another player that it made her be hard on her teammates wanting them to improve. This however only makes them quite the team and she almost makes Riko the only person that stood up for her also leave. We see our other main character Ayano who goes out to try tennis and when her friend Elena was about to be hit by a ball she saved her in time revealing that she had experience playing badminton. Of course she has experience because turns out Ayano is the person that defeat Nagisa. Now she wants nothing to do with the sport and only considers it that just a sport.

Next episode we will have a match between Ayano and Nagisa. Like any other sports anime Ayano will fall in love with sport again and will play with Nagisa in order to help her improve.

Wow that was excellent. Animation was absolutely stunning. Got me hooked.

My only concern is if this high quality animation stays consistent all the way to the end. I've seen too many anime where animation was strong at the start but takes a dip towards the end. Here's to hoping that this anime's animation quality stays consistent all the way to the end.

Also... was it just me or did we get some subtle yuri teasing...?

So they dumped all their money into the jiggle physics and muscle flexing, but had to outsource their scripts and got a bog standard sports anime plot. While it's not terrible, they need a bit more than Hanesaki being a master of balls and Nagisa being a huge crusher.

That was... something. Over on Twitter, I've been describing it as "if Euph and Scorching Ping Pong Girls got together and had a love child".

Count me in!

At last!!! An anime showcasing badminton.

I just hope this won't end up as a yuri anime but as a normal sports themed anime.

I'm not sure how I feel about this series. To be sure the production quality is excellent but as has been mentioned if that's the selling point how long will it last?

More importantly the story feels... shallow? Or maybe it's because we've been bum-rush introduced to these characters, had some what should be emotional moments for the characters happen, yet without any attachment or depth to the characters' past and motivations I didn't connect.or feel anything. I understand why Nagisa was bawling her eyes out, why she was angry, why she was upset, but I wasn't given any opportunity to get to know her so rather than have a sympathetic reaction I felt like a casual observer.

And Ayano is a total mystery but not in that "I want to know more" way. I can understand why Nagisa would be questioning her reasons for playing but they didn't drop any real clues as to why Ayano has quit. Was she so good it bored her? Was something going on in her life that made her question why play? Was she playing out of some sort of duty and felt no personal motivation?

It's like the producers wanted to prove badminton could be cool and awesome so tried to pack in a bunch of action rather than lay a proper foundation and context for the story or the protagonists. So far it's leaning really hard on the typical sports tropes and not from my perspective in a good way.

Also, did Nozomi from Keijo retire and start playing badminton instead?

I enjoyed badminton back at high school, and this has some fluid animation!
Liking some of the girl designs as well (the queen(?) in the opening few minutes ), and it was refreshing to see that some girls do like guys, as I expected a yuri-vibe, not that it matters much.

Suppose the plot is a bit standard but it is only the first episode, and I like what I'm seeing so far.
I hope they do doubles too.

As has already been said and repeated, it's got some pretty nice animation, but my God is the story so incredibly standard. I fell out of love with sports anime a while ago, and decided to give this one a try, to see if there would be something I would like... I'll give it another episode or two...
