Final Fantasy is a constantly advancing, changing game. New innovations are made with every game that comes out that are most times very positive and other times quite the opposite. For instance, there have been changes to the number of characters in the battle party; advances with skills such as overdrive, limit break and other things; new forms of travel; new characters; new battle systems; and new character customization concepts. Of course there are various other things that I've probably neglected to mention...

...but when will Final Fantasy run out of steam? Will it ever run out of steam? In this new age of technology, Square-Enix can buff up the graphics and add so many more things to the game play with the power of the PS3 hard drive and its running engines, but will our prized RPG become just another memory?

In my personal opinion:

I believe that Square-Enix can pump out at least another five games or so that'll be fresh and innovative to the genre of RPGs but I don't think the creators of Final Fantasy can push new ideas onto the game without making it something completely not Final Fantasy. How far can you push the battle system without it changing the feel of the game?

Didn't the original creator(not sure) resigned or square-enix fired him coz of the failure of Final Fantasy unlimited? But That Director now owns his own company and creates games only for X-Box.... Or is it all just a rumor???

Yes, Hironobu Sakaguchi resigned from Square-Enix. He and a few of the original staff that created the Final Fantasy series are in the process of starting a new studio to make games that are unlike Final Fantasy. They want to create something new.

I heard that they already had. I just don't know what.

in a way, all final fantasys or just most of em die...seeing they have individual stories..and are no way related...cept for the places they are set...but Square made games like Vagrant story which are nothing to do with FF but are set in the same place...so the name Final fantasy may die...but at the end of the day, as long as square are making games...they will be new stories...and FF or not, they might as well be, becuase they are new stories like the FF series...however square might as well keep the FF name seeing how, as long as they keep making good games, the FF series will sell very well compared to a different named title in terms of sales and in the long run, it will be seen as the best series.

You may be right. But I don't know if Square will be able to keep that up without fans saying, "Hey, this isn't Final Fantasy."

1. Final Fantasy XIII looks more like a Kingdom Hearts battle system
2. What about Dragon Quest, thats a great series too
3. Hironobu Sakaguichi and Nobuo Uematsu started there own company (don't remember the name) that is making 3 games for the Xbox 360. They are Blue Dragon, Lost Oddessy, and the third has yet to be announced
4. Square-Enix is trying to bide there time by re-releasing older Final Fantasy games. The only one I really care about is Final Fantasy IV on the DS, only because its been completely redone, but how many times has FFI and II been redone? I mean come on!

Right. Square can't keep Final Fantasy alive forever. We'll all have to move onto something completely different soon. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII look great but they're starting to lose the Final Fantasy feel. XIII is the first game to be broken into three parts: XIII, Versus XIII, and Agito; provided they all form the umbrella game Called Final Fantasy XIII Fabula Nova Crystalis, it is still a very big change that I'm not sure will hold too well in the future.

I'm hoping 13 will be it. 13 seems to be Square's favorite number. Maybe when they see the sales go down then they'll stop.
