Too Smart to be Happy?
Posted 7/19/07
It could. Because once you've "smartened up", you realize how sad the world really is and how many people suffer while you live your happy [if it is happy] life. But it could also make you appreciate what you have even more.

It can take away a lot of happiness if your smart. You think not only whats now but about posibilities, maybies and what ifs all the time. You start analyzing everything around you and then you suddenly understand that world is a lot darker than you thought. It can be a real pain when you wake up and see whats happening around and understand that it won't get better any time soon. It's easy to lose yourself in the things you don't want to understand but still do. Being ignorent and happy might be easyer but I prefer to be smart. Even if it takes a lot of happyness away it still leaves you the most importent forms of happiness and it gives you advantages.

Too smart means you have nothing to do in this world =(.... Too smart people usually have no will to live... Most of the child prodigy died at young age =(... But emotion solve the problems =)... Emotion is a shortcut of intelligence so you no need to use intelligence to solve problems.. Emotion is the next evolution... So be smart or be the way it is.. Your path.. lol~

Everyone is unhappy, when they're a genius or a retard. The most famous picture of Albert Einstein was of him winking and sticking his tongue out, and he's considered one of the smartest men ever.

Even ignorant people aren't happy. While smart people are just preoccupied with depressing smart people things, ignorant people are equally unhappy, just with more trivial things.

And in all seriousness, I would choose to be ignorant and happy any day. I wouldn't want to be a total idiot, but just a normal average happy person is fine. I think too much as is, and it's annoying sometimes. If I didn't doubt myself and consider all the other options I could be so much happier on a daily basis. Adam and Eve were so happy running naked in the garden of Eden, now look at the world! Bombs and bloodshed and prositutes bleeding and babies dying. If we weren't so damn persistent and curious, life would be so much simpler, and we'd be happier.

But then again, curiousity is human nature.

I think I'd choose intelligence. It does help to have a sense of closure, even if it kills us ( I don't mean literally though).

well (not to brag) but i see myself as quite smart and sometimes i have the same problem as that guy who 'became stupid' but rather than taking drugs i just take on a simple attitude towards life, i tell myself to onli use my brain when needed so in a sense u can say im kinda 'stupid' most of the time, and to keep my mind of depressing, life pondering questions, i just daydream bout random stuff (like saving the city from aliens or something, its stupid xD but fun and less damaging than drugs)

You know, a person who's really smart, will consider the answers to those unanswerable questions, and pick the one that works in their life. Dwelling upon things that doesn't really have an answer is stupid.

Stupidly this reminded me of the Simpson's episode when Homer actually turned smart.

And yeah, I think to an extent, the more you think about the way life works, the sadder you'll get, the farther you'll stray from happiness... Yet others are more optimistic.

For example
TS Eliot vs Wordsworth.

Both are wonderful poets and gifted in prose
but Eliot tends to be much more negative in outlook.
Which you can see from
Whispers of Immortality vs Intimations of Immortality

To me intelligence only makes me unhappy if I don't share it. For those geniuses out there who complain that everybody else is stupid and life is such a bore, why don't you devote some time into teaching what you know instead of whine about why people don't know things? It's a great reinforcement and you might encounter some rebuttals but how would you know if you don't take the initiative? I'm not saying be a jerk and show the world how much you know. I'm saying that what productive thing is in your mind should ought to be shared.

Now to address the question, I would rather have the truth revealed so I can do something about it and make it appealing.

Intelligence can either MAKE you Happy or just MAKE you Crazy. Overflowing with Intelligence isn't really a good Idea at all. People that's been sooooooooooo Smart often goes crazy due to Illusions that surrounds the Person. With his Intellect overflowing his head, he can't do a thing but to get crazy to keep his sanity. Doesn't make sense?
Then, try to understand it better ^_^

I dont like the option you give. Being blind is great because you are being calm and relaxed, but not being blind and understanding what happens and the reality is also great and benificent. I dont think intelligence makes sadness. I'm not stupid but I dont feel sad, yes I feel sometimes but I tend to ignore it. That's why sangfroid is needed.

Intelligent+happy is great. There is someone intelligent+unhappy. This can be helped. I'm sure.
I think people who need intelligent people ought to show up and ask something rather than thinking that intelligent people are selfish.
