is it better to be blind - ignorant and happy, than to see - understand the ugliness ?

I feel ... like I have seen and posted in this thread before... but I can't remember.

And that's what I think makes you happy: horrible short and long term memory.

It's nice to be able to comprehend the world around you. To be happy, you need to block it out and focus on the good which is made easier when you can't really remember anything. ^_^ To have a general sense of the past, without being bogged down by details makes life sweet.

I'd rather die then be stupid ><
Anyhow, to the point, Just because you know that the world is cruel and generally sucks, that dosn't mean you have to care. Honestly people...

It is very difficult to attain happiness... however, the longevity of the idea of being happy has to do more with your ambition than intelligence...

(I believe) People with less ambition are more likely to be satisfied earlier on; therefore that contentment equates to a version of happiness that individual can understand...

While people with a grander scheme in mind... tend to be overtly nit-picky and self absorbed in the perfection he or she is trying to attain. This anal retentiveness is very hard to live with both by the individual and for the people surrounding him/her.

When the latter individual see others happy-- they end up wishing things can be that simple for them...

Being blind is no good, but I think the reason being stupid works in this world is becuase this world is some what back wards... I mean ever watch reality like "The Carters?" no matter how much we laugh at thier lives at the end of the day they still got thier 5 cars and manson to live in....

I don't think being smart is the problem, it's more like being too sensitve, or thinking to much that would get one depressed, sometimes you just gotta think less of things....sometimes letting things go is the way to go

being smart makes one a little unhappy.. because, you have to maintain my grades, you always need to study, and you always need to keep your position in the top 10... but at the same time, intelligence can make us happy too.. life will be easier to live if we are intelligent like in making decisions.. ^^ well, thats my opinion..

I dunno with you guys but I am happy even tho i'm smart(not boasting). I dun even know why I'm smart. I always play & play
& w8 for release of new games. That's what I do to become happy even tho ur smart, just play! never think about getting beaten by someone, it's ok as long as your happy. Don't think about rivalry or beating someone, just be lazy & live free from strings, because pressure only leads you to stupidity, STUDY LEADS YOU TO BECOME A DUMMY.

^ And the only reason some Smart People gets sad that easily is because they're just depressed. I mean, it's a normal human emotion.
Besides, what's got to it if a genius gets sad? They'll get Emo and suicide? lol.

A common theme.

If I remember correctly there was a simpsons episode mocking "flowers for Algernon", where it is discovered that homer has a crayon in his head, so they take it out and he becomes a genius. Long story short, he ends up pushing another crayon up his nose.

A related issue is that ignorance may more often beget confidence then learning.

Also, I'll just note that what may cause more happiness may not be the best outcome overall. Like I pointed out in another thread, there are things more important than happiness, but some may disagree. Many of the most productive and creative people are those who are continually unhappy with the world- and thus strive to change it. Good!

^thing about a,b,c, is just a bunch of bunk, and not just saying that bc I'm a b student, ha.

And come now, the allegory of the cave is more about reality and our understanding of it. It does does not have a whole lot to say about happiness based on relative understanding.

I was about to agree with you but different people have different forms of happiness...and also i believe that "man's ultimate goal in life is happiness and contentment" which is hard to find...but some claim to have found it whether they in never ending studying, being productive, creating things, challenging norms, or just plain happy go lucky lifestyle...this thread mentioned the guy really didnt enjoy being smart or intelligent thats why he chose to be stupid and ignorant...to answer the question you must find what suits you better and thats it...

For me i enjoy life being stupid sometimes but not all the time and also enjoy learning and expanding my knowledge, challenging my current skills and abilities...lets call it simply a little bit of everything.
