After hearing a new band and giving my honest opinion on a band, I received a lot of flak , from only one person(does that mean I was on to something? ).

Anyway, I have decided to revise my view on music.
It occurs to me after hearing such a wide variety of music(and deleting the crap) that no one can say a band is absolute crap.
Bands crank out album after album, and certain songs are their best works, but some albums are dead spots in their creativity. If a band has more than 5 songs from all their albums that could touch any listener's soul, it's a miracle.

Overrated is another story. If a boring band makes a smash hit, they are one-hit wonders, big deal. But if a band with different sounds consistently makes good songs in their peak and the songs are themes to certain events in their generation.
I can only conclude they are classics from that time forward. If said band has a major following, the 5 song requirement, and ends befoe they create too many overrated albums, they can't be overrated!

Rarely have I heard an underrated band not on the air, but their fanbase would have you think that everything they make is gold. To fanboys: Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Whitney Houston, Cream, Micheal, Jackson, Nirvana, THe Rolling Stones, Yoko Kanno, Metallica, etc. are talented beyond belief, but I would shoot myself before I tell someone that everything they make is essential to your listening collection.

If another newer band covers their song and fixes flaws in style or lyrics(rarely) any objective music lover is obliged to delete the weaker of the two(remixes are left to fanboys and audiophiles) It's like if someone repainted Picasso, but made them normal, it only serves to waterdown the concept of art.

Anyone got some 5 song list for any music lover's collection from certain artists?
And be prepared to defend them from observations or random flamers.

My sister made a good comment about Picasso after she spent some time in europe: "Picasso is likely a poorly trained dog... he leaves his crap everywhere."

interesting thread idea, i'll think of some songs and post later.

I was thinking more like 5 songs from one artist/band, songs so good no one could say they were overrated.

And I have never even heard of those songs, much less the bands

I honestly don't know about the other two. I'll think about it and maybe edit the post later

April Ethereal is one of my favorite Opeth songs. I honestly don't think they've done a bad song until after Blackwater Park... and those are really more bland than anything else. Opeth was at one point an amazing band. I lost interest when they stopped doing heavy music (though I haven't heard their newest album yet, so they may have gone back for all I know).

I heard about Nine Inch Nails(2 songs), but "NIN" is not a term I recognized.
I'm only a heavy metal/alternative/thrash newb.
And I don't memorize alternate names and acronyms, or ll the band members' names. That just seems like an "Star Trek thing". I don't like feeling that dorky(the ones who can speak Klingon )

Musicians aren't that great unless they actually stand up for their personal beliefs. (John Lennon, Bob Marley, Green Day, Rage Against the Machine) Those are some people worth memorizing, or else they have lived(and died) in vain.

haha well you go dl those songs and tell me what you think of em im interested in what you would have to say lol.....and all the bands youve mentioned...i could agree with all those except greenday because greenday did it for the money and to generate interest in thier band they hated on bush to gain the popularity on angsty teenagers and made stupid politically charged music to make money their pieces of shit.

Green Day is responsible for the fall of punk.
Kyo, I have listened to all of those bands/artists and I have to say that I like them. I haven't heard Job for a Cowboy though so I'm going to listen to them right now to see how they are.

its true i mean punk wasnt exactly floursihing but any creidbility it had in semi-mainstream music was just obliterated once Greenday did that....and wow well kick ass youre very well versed in yout music i must say but i should have expected that from a deftones fan....and i think you might enjoy JFAC...theyre kinda wild

NIN, Norma Jean, and Interpol are all fairly well-known bands. I hope you were being sarcastic kyocool.

The only punk band I listen to is the Dead Milkmen.

I'll make a list eventually.

Yea there def, not for everyone lol but i think enough of them.
Xrn you should list some of your musical fancies for us because it seems you and me are the only ones who have any musical knowledge here
