Muse:
1 Take A Bow
2 Stockholm Syndrome
3 Newborn
4 Apocalypse Please
5 Assassin

Radiohead:
1 Idioteque
2 The Tourist
3 Karma Police
4 Fitter Happier(more poetry than song, but is absolutely a must-hear)
5 Airbag

I did like a song on the commercial for the Coheed and Cambria album, but I can't tell if they will continue to sound like that. They at least captured my interest.

I've recently gotten into Elliott Smith. I don't have his whole discography (in fact I dont have any of it yet.. um..) but from what I've heard I can recommend the following.

Elliott Smith:

1. King's Crossing
2. A Fond Farewell
3. Some Song
4. Bled White
5. I Didn't Understand

2)Ringefinger
3) Fragile
4) Happiness in Slavery
5) Wish

Eh.. I'm sorry Trevor but I'm a big NIN fan and I must say, Starfuckers Inc. is commonly (and rightfully, IMO) considered one of Trent's worse songs throughout the NIN community (well, the sane NIN community that is not made up of crazy goth fangirl/boys). Surely you must know this.

At any rate, my own list for NIN would be:

1. Eraser
2. The Perfect Drug
3. And All That Could Have Been (off the Still disc)
4. Suck
5. Self Destruction, Final

Oh, wait. I don't have room for an instrumental from The Fragile!

Haha, yeah, I guess I'm biased in thinking that there's way too many awesome NIN songs to cram into a list of 5.

Ah to hell with fan communities, especially those so narrowly focused on one artist. I'd miss out on so much good stuff if I listened to everything a jackass with an internet connection and keyboard said. And I'll sure as hell not decide a song I enjoy is shitty just because it's not the status quo amongst "the true fans." I think Starfuckers is good song, though certainly not his best.

Come to think of it, every hardcore NIN fan I've met has either been two marshmellows short of of a box of lucky charms or an eilitist arrogant prick no longer capable of rational thought.

You realize you are posting this on an anime fan community?

I didn't mean to imply that you should go along with the majority's opinion for its own sake, but the general consensus about Starfuckers developed for a reason, so I was wondering what Trevor's rationale was. Which he cleared up now.

There is a difference between participating in a fan community, and taking what they believe to be as gospel. I typically take an oppinion and evaluate it for myself. If it's from an individual I've come to know and understand how they evaluate a subject, that will carry some weight though by no means be decisive. For example, the general consensus here is that Naruto is a good anime. I think it's an overrated mediocre time sink. Other anime boards have their "pet" favorite animes, and their "pet" hated animes. For example, another board I frequent views Elfen Lied on the same level as say DBZ or Naruto. That's a bit harsh in my oppinion, but the oppinion is so entrenched that it's become the "official" oppinion and isn't up for debate.

Anime has a very broad fan base with alot of different oppinions and personalities as well. A fan community centered around a certain band (or even an individual anime) tends to lack the same degree of diversity.

My last statement refers to the general population of the NIN fan community, which further demonstrates why I particularly couldn't care less for a general consensus they've reached. A general consensus among them carries very little weight with me as opposed to the general consensus of somewhere else.

By all means, I agree with your first two paragraphs.

Of course, for me it's a bit hard to agree with that last one since I have sane and rational friends who like NIN, but I guess I can believe that that's your experience.

God I agree with you on ACDC. I used to work with a bunch of rednecks who worshiped them. ACDC has done some good songs, but not enough to warrant the ungodly amount of attention they get.

I could never really get into ACDC. Their songs just got annoying after a while. But then, I have friends who get annoyed by Led Zeppelin (a band who I adore). I suppose everyone has their own particular "pet band" or two.

Of course, my Led Zeppelin top 5 is probably fairly different from most people's (I expect):

1. When the Levee Breaks
2. Tangerine
3. Black Mountain Side
4. Moby Dick
5. The Battle of Evermore

A lot of their songs are overplayed and overrated (even--nay, especially--Stairway. And Immigrant Song is the worst on that album {III}--they just did it so that people would buy the record)
