There was more to the holocaust then just the jews being killed off. There was a lot of religious tension and the catholic church was one of hitler's many of things he did was based on their influence. It isn't the first war that had religious influence. Hitler was one man that was able to use others hatred of the unknown to try and destroy other religions, but jews were not his only target.

Most people also forget the 10 million Soviet civillians killed by the German army.

As people have already said Hilter was a political genius, he took a defeated and dispirited people and forged them into one of the scariest war machines in history. And in reality the Holocaust was Hilter's personal vedetta, and a useful scapegoat for the war.

I'm reading night also. Very good book!! Also Alicia: My story is so good you can't put it down. I know the holocaust was horrible and stuff, but I mean no disrespect to the people who've died or survived it, but people make it sound so Horrible. A lot of times the people making it sound so bad are white-americans and they talk about how horrible it was when they don't even want to acknowledge what they did to the slaves. They Killed slave babies just as they killed jewish babies. It made noo difference to the white people just as it made no difference to the Nazis so what's the difference?? And not to mention that Jim Crow, (which wasn't his real name) was a HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR!!!! so u tell me? yes, the Holocaust was horrible and I wished it never had happened. But what's the difference between it and Slavery?

It was condesed into a shorter period of time and technically it was a genocide.

I've read an excerpt from my english book about the holocaust. It stated there that they let the jews starve to death becoz of a crime a fellow jew did. for me it was very unfair. i mean if u're in their postion what wud u feel? do these Nazis really don't have a heart? They also have families, what if one day they are the ones that will be starve to death. if they want to punish the criminal then they should not include the innocent people!

I went to the holocaust museum last summer in Washington. and I felt bad.... it really reminded me of The Diary of Anne Frank. x_x

*Schindler's List is a great movie for this topic.

That's exactly the worst thing you could possibly think. (Oh, and realize that I'm not directing this comment at you, but all people (and there are many) that harbor similar thoughts.) It's not as bad as denying the Holocaust outright, but hell, it's not much better. Do you know what the motto of the Holocaust is? "Never again."

If we all ignore the Holocaust and pretend that something so horrible never happened then how can we keep it from happening again? It is critical that the Holocaust is taught to new generations, to ignorant people of older generations. Maybe next time another group of people will be targeted and eliminated, maybe with new technology next time it'll be even worse and another million people will die. Our goal is for there not to be a next time, and your attitude is doing nothing to help.

Genocides like the Holocaust are taking place all over the world right now, entire groups of people are being wiped out for no damn reason, like in Darfur, and the reason this is happening at all is because people are ignoring it. Only after the Holocaust did people exclaim about how horrible it was, but it doesn't have to be this way with Darfur. Taking a passive stance on any genocide, acting as if we can merely let such horrible things pass away with time is not the answer at all! We can and must realize how horrible it is now, and do something with situations like Darfur. One teenager like myself can't make a difference, but if we all do, anything is possible.

If I seem as if I'm overreacting here, well, I probably am. And I'm not trying to start drama, but this is important to me. As a Jew myself and having some my great-grandparents murdered in the Holocaust, this is not a topic that my family can merely "not think about" and let pass away. I'm not asking for you to pity and feel sorry to me, but to realize that what happened was sick and horrible and to take initiative because next time, (if we let there be one), it can be anyone. No one is excluded from hate.
